National Dress Up Your Pet Day ~
It’s January 14th and do you know what that means? It is National Dress Up Your Pet Day. This festival for our furry friends was founded in 2009 by Colleen Paige to celebrate our pets and their {aka our} fashion sense. National Dress Up Your Pet Day is sponsored by the Animal Miracle Network. This holiday was created to show our pets that we love them, and to show some respect to the animal fashion community.
National Dress Up Your Pet Day
Our little fellow, Puppy Churo, really doesn’t “bite ugly people,” but he sure looks cute in this shirt that we got from Happy Dip Creations!
Safety First On National Dress Up Your Pet Day!
I love National Dress Up Your Pet Day because it gives us an opportunity to get creative with our pets. Many pets love wearing clothes. But remember, you want to be safe when dressing up your pets. Never put clothing on your pets that is too restrictive. For instance, do not put a collar on your fur baby that is too tight, just so you can have a cute picture. Also, don’t put clothing on your pet that that has small parts that he can choke on! It could hurt your animal and we do not promote that in any way!
I can appreciate this holiday because we have many animals. We have two dogs, four cats, and an aquatic turtle! No clothes for the turtle, please. ;P We never put clothes on our cats but we do sometimes on our chihuahua because he shivers like he is going to freeze to death if the temperature gets below 75 degrees. Poor, pitiful Puppy!
Many people dress up their animals for Halloween but it does not only have to be for Halloween. You can buy pretty much any type of attire that you might want for your animal for National Dress Up Your Pet Day. The choices are seemingly endless! And, don’t worry….if dressing up your dog isn’t your thing, how about dressing up your elephant!
Even Elephants Can Be Dressed Up!
So, as you can see many people love dressing up their furry {and not so furry} friends on this unique holiday. It makes their relationship with their pet a little more personal. I also think that is gives pets a sense of style and personality. For instance, you can turn your pet into a rockstar, gangster, or even if a hillbilly, should you feel so inclined! How silly would that be? 😀
Personally, I think t’s about time our animals got a holiday! We have a holiday for everything else. Why not have one for our cutest of little friends!
Will You Be Celebrating National Dress Up Your Pet Day?
Yes! A “holiday” I didn’t know about, am excited about, and didn’t miss! Thank you so much for posting about this! Now I can go torture my kitties…

I can understand maybe a sweater on small breed dogs when it’s cold.Other than that, well.I’ll leave it!
If I had pet elephants, I’d dress them up! They looked so cute. Let’s not talk about what the cat would do to me if I tried to dress her up!
What a fun holiday!
I love the Elephants! I dress my dogs up when it is cold, but we are in Florida so that is not often:(
Ok, you’re right, Dress Up Your Pet Day is way more fun than C-section day! LOL. I love the elephant!!! Hmmm, maybe I’ll dig out some clothes and see which of my dogs and cats will get into the spirit.
These are too funny! Pets might as well have a holiday too!
I didn’t know there was a national day for dressing up your pet! It’s been a long time since we put clothes on our golden retriever…but we dressed him up as Harry Potter a few Halloweens ago! 🙂
I bet that was cute!

Awwww! Those elephants are too cute! My dogs never let me dress them up 🙁 Not even more Halloween.
That’s too funny and cute! We did not celebrate..my kitties are not fans of anything on them.
how cute, I never did dress my dog up when she was living, I got her a shirt and she eat it off of herself
If I had a pet I think I would. Not sure if my pet would be too gung-ho about it…but why not?! 😉
How cute! I didn’t know about this day!!! I should show you the pic of my dog dressed in a tuxedo!
You definitely should!!!
