UCLA’s 22nd Annual Taste For A Cure Event To Take Place 4/28 #TasteForACure

April 12, 2017 by Dawn McAlexander

UCLA's 22nd Annual Taste For A Cure Event To Take Place 4/28

The information about UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation 22nd Annual Taste For A Cure came to my email today and I thought I would share it with all of you. Unfortunately, we all have been touched by cancer. Either we have battled it ourselves or we have a loved one who has. I have known many people to be taken by cancer and this really hit home to me as my grandmother lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma a few years ago. If you would like to donate or help in any way, there is information about who to contact at the bottom of this press release.

UCLA’s 22nd Annual Taste For A Cure Event To Take Place 4/28

The Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation at UCLA (JCCF) hosts its 22nd annual Taste for a Cure Event on Friday, April 28 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Yael and Scooter Braun will receive the Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award, hosted by Academy Award nominated actress, Angela Bassett. Yael Braun, founder of Motherlucker and co-founder of Fcancer, is a pioneer in activating Gen-Y to engage with their parents about early detection, preventative lifestyle and communication around cancer. Scooter Braun, founder of SB Projects, is one of the entertainment industry’s biggest power brokers who incorporates social good into every initiative.

Event co-chairs include Dana Walden, Co-Chairman & CEO of FOX Television Group, Gary Newman, Co-Chairman & CEO of FOX Television Group, Joe Cohen, Co-Head of Television at Creative Artists Agency, Jay Sures, Managing Director at United Talent Agency, Jon Holman, President of The Holman Group, and Larry Maguire, President of Far Niente Winery. Modern Luxury Angeleno magazine will serve as the media partner.

A highlight of the evening will be a performance by international superstar Ariana Grande. This year’s event will also include delicious wine tastings, sensational cuisine, a live auction, and a performance by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, star of The Carmichael Show.

The epicurean culinary team will deliver a unique twist on the California experience by preparing tantalizing dishes from The District by Hannah An, Locanda del Lago and The Beverly Wilshire for all to enjoy.

“This is a special year for UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation as it marks our 22nd anniversary of Taste for a Cure established to raise money for UCLA’s highest priority cancer research,” said JCCF Chairman, Randy Katz. “We are excited to present Yael and Scooter Braun with the Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award in recognition of their dedication to the fight against cancer.”

Yael and Scooter Braun join previous honorees, Dana Walden, Gary Newman, Kevin Reilly, Joe Cohen, Jay Sures, Jennifer Salke and Eric Shanks. The Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award was created in memory of Gil Nickel, proprietor of Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel and Dolce wineries, who lost a courageous battle against melanoma in October 2003. The Award honors key individuals for their humanitarian efforts, community involvement and commitment to philanthropy.

Over the past 21 years, the event has raised funds over $11 million for highest priority cancer research at UCLA.
