10 Things You Must Experience in Cienfuegos: The Pearl of Cuba #sponsored #TravelDeep

Recently, Jay and I got the opportunity to cruise to Cuba with Fathom Travel. We have been to a lot of places in the Caribbean, but Cuba was particularly interesting to us and, since Americans have not easily been able to visit Cuba in our lifetime, it was an amazing opportunity. We spent 4 fabulous days visiting different cities in Cuba and, today, we are sharing with you all about the wonderful things there are to do in Cienfuegos.

Cienfuegos is a must-see city for anyone traveling to Cuba. With gorgeous vistas, impressive architecture, and tons of entertainment and exploration options, Cienfuegos is known as the Pearl of the South for a reason. Located on the southern coast of Cuba about 155 miles southwest of Havana, the city boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the country as well as vibrant city life that any visitor will enjoy.

I just love the color and design of this absolutely beautiful hotel in Cienfuegos. <3 #hotel #traveldeep #impacttravel #FathomAdonia #fathomtravel #Cienfuegos #Cuba #caribbean #travelgram #traveling #instatravel #alwaysexploring #neverstopexploring #natgeotravelpic #frommers #travelblogger #travelblog #travelbreak #traveldeeper #travels #igtravel #lonelyplanet #passportready #travelstoke #traveldudes #roamtheplanet #igpossetravels #worldtravelpics #lovetheworld #travel [sponsored] @fathomtravel

10 Things You Must Experience in Cienfuegos

This city is one of unparalleled beauty and charm. You can enjoy walks along streets lined with some of the most gorgeous architecture in all of the Caribbean as well as enjoy perusing the many shops in the city before dining in style – or in a laid back atmosphere, if you so desire – at any of the many restaurants featuring delicious, authentic Cuban food. If nightlife isn’t your thing, you can also enjoy the surrounding geography and take in the splendor of nature’s beauty.

1. Castillo de Jagua
If you love history, Castillo de Jagua is a can’t miss spot. This Spanish fortress located near the entrance of Cienfuegos Bay was built in 1742 to protect the area from pirates. These days, Castillo de Jagua still contributes to the welfare of the city by attracting tourists who flock to see this historic spot.

2. El Nicho Waterfalls
It’s worth the slow moving and bumpy drive of about 1 to 2 hours to get to the El Nicho Waterfalls. These freshwater cascades are a highlight of the region, with a short hiking trail, gorgeous views, and access to natural pools just waiting for you to take a dip.

3. Plaza Jose Marti
This memorial to Jose Marit, one of Cuba’s national heroes, is packed full of interesting historical information, as well as a stunning tower and beautiful gardens. Take in the lovely scenery and don’t forget to visit the museum located in the base of the memorial.

4. Delfinario de Cienfuegos
Located just outside of the city, the Cienfuegos Dolphinarium offers visitors the chance to swim with dolphins. It’s a safe environment for both visitors and the dolphins that they interact with, and it’s been awarded the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence.

5. Rancho Luna Beach
Just south of Cienfuegos, you’ll find Rancho Luna Beach, a gorgeous stretch of white sand, palm trees, and crystal clear, turquoise water. It ranks as one of the top beaches in Cuba, with hotels and dining located near the beach for easy access.

6. Jardin Botanico de Cienfuegos
What began as a huge sugar mill and sugar cane research center in 1901 is now one of the most impressive botanical gardens in the Caribbean. It boasts a collection of more than 2,000 species of exotic tropical plants that span 670 genera and 125 botanical families. In addition, visitors can take in over 400 orchid species, over 230 palms, more than 65 ficuses, and 29 bamboo species.

7. Club Benny More
For visitors to Cienfuegos who are interested in some hopping nightlife, Club Benny More is the place to be. It’s a club filled with high energy, Latin music, tons of dancing, and the Cuban vibe that we’ve all heard about.

8. Ferrer Palace
Built between 1917 and 1918 by merchant and landowner, Jose Ferrer, Ferrer Palace is one of the most impressive pieces of architecture in Cienfuegos. Take in the beautiful balconies and cupola, as well as the views that go with it while you get that old world feel that Cuba is known for.

9. Catedral de la Purisima Conception
Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Cathedral is a gorgeous structure and one that shouldn’t be missed. With beautiful towers and old world architectural charm, stepping into cathedral is like stepping back in time.

10. Necropolis Tomas Acea
The Tomas Acea Cemetary is one of two resting places in Cienfuegos that are designated as national monuments. Classified as a garden cemetery, the cemetery’s neoclassical pavilion welcomes guests to a beautiful cemetery with lovely landscaping and buildings. It’s a must see stop in Cienfuegos.

I visited Cuba in 1994 I think it was. We are Canadian and so it has always been no problem to visit Cuba. I would love to return one time very soon. This is a great roundup. Thanks. I will visit Cienfuegos one day. I would really be interested in doing that with Fathom. Maybe it’s time for me to look into that.
