Active Spring Break Destinations: Hilton Head's Palmetto Dunes

Are you looking for a vacation this spring that isn’t all about the relaxation? Did you know that Hilton Head is one of the top active spring break destinations around? Better still, Palmetto Dunes offers some of the best ways to get out and do something without even having to leave their resort.

resort’s golf courses and beautiful homes

Five miles of bike trails, 26 tennis courts, 3 golf courses, 3 miles of Atlantic Ocean beach, 11-mile inland lagoon system for fishing and kayaking — there’s no excuse not to get outdoors at Hilton Head Island’s Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. This family-friendly resort, named to Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Family Getaways and Conde Nast Traveler’s Top 20 Resorts in the South, offers sunny skies, mild spring temperatures and a pristine natural environment with sand dunes, oaks draped with hanging moss and plenty of palm trees, to boot.

Please consider Palmetto Dunes for any upcoming Spring Break or summer destination stories, especially for families. Not only is there a wealth of activities, the resort is affordable with rates for vacation rentals that include separate bedrooms, full kitchens and washer/dryers starting at only $165/night — less expensive than many hotel rooms.

Pickleball has proven extremely popular with all ages at Palmetto Dunes, so much so that the resort doubled its pickleball courts from 4 to 8

New And Trending For The Resort This Season…

Pickleball On The Rise – This milder version of tennis that also combines elements of ping pong has been a hit at the resort over the last year, popular with families and retirees. It¹s easy to play and tons of fun, as well. The resort currently has 8 pickleball courts.

Creative Golf Course Transportation – Not only does the resort boast golf bikes for navigating from hole to hole, but it also offers a new Club Car fleet equipped with GPS, as well as USB ports to charge cell phones and play music devices. Palmetto Dunes also becomes one of the first golf resorts in the southeast and first in South Carolina to offer the four-person carts with a dozen available.

3 miles of beach and 5 miles of paved bike paths make biking a safe and active way to get anywhere in the resort

Oldies But Goodies…

The Classic Palmetto Dunes General Store – Just a bike ride away from your rental, the store is the perfect stop for a sweet treat like candy or ice cream or to grab a souvenir of your beach vacation.

Hilton Head Outfitters – Rent bikes (delivered right to your vacation rental), kayaks, canoes or fishing equipment from this easily accessible shop that is headquarters for many of Palmetto Dunes’ outdoor adventures.

Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center – Guests who book through the resort get two hours of tennis or pickleball time daily. Families can reserve courts to get in some active family time.

Golf with A View – All three of Palmetto Dunes’ award-winning golf courses are better than ever this spring. Try the Robert Trent Jones course, one of only two oceanfront courses on the island, along with Arthur Hills and George Fazio.

Shelter Cove Harbour – Just across the road from Palmetto Dunes is the resort’s entertainment district, Shelter Cove Harbour. Not only are there unique shops and a range of restaurants, many with harbor views, but visitors can rent catamarans, join a fishing charter, jet ski or kayak through the marshes. Music & Taste on the Harbour runs every spring with live music and food tastings Thursday nights.

LOL, I’ve never heard of Pickleball!
My husbands idea of a vacation is SLEEPING. I so love the photo of the bike riding on the beach. That really appeals to me. When we “get away”, it’s to visit kids and grand kids. I think that I would really enjoy just the two of us, relaxing somewhere besides at home:-)

I’ve been to Charleston but not Hilton Head. I’ve have been wanting to take another trip to SC and am thinking Hilton Head might be the perfect place to visit. There really is so much to do.

What a fun place to vacation. We always try to find places where we can rent bikes because it’s just too much trouble to take all of ours.

This sounds like such a great place to take the family on vacation. It isn’t that far from us so it would be a wonderful idea for our next getaway.
