This week, I started my senior year. Since I am enrolled in a program called Early College, I will have to go to school an additional year as compared to other people my age. However, when I graduate I will have an Associates Degree as well as a high school diploma. Although I love the school I attend, I find it very confusing in choosing what steps and classes to take next. Thanks to the Kaplan KapMap, I have tons of help in making those important decisions, as well as tips on things that will better my college resume.

In the community college that I am currently attending, I do have a college adviser. When I say “adviser,” I mean it very loosely. Since my four years of attending the early college, I have met with her only when I needed an error fixed in my schedule. Other than that, she has done no advising in helping me decide a career, pick classes, or join extra curricular programs. Now I will say, she is a very nice and friendly lady, but I think the college advising program is far too small for the amount of people attending the school. Because of that, each individual student lacks the amount of guidance they truly need in preparing for life after this school.
Since I began using the KapMap, I feel much less confused about things I need to do. This map has a month by month set up that gives me a list of things I should do in each month in order to stay on track. These things include joining clubs, establish study skills, making connections with seniors and much more. Not only that, but Kaplan also offers test prep help. We all have those nights where we grab every text book and hopelessly read the things that seem the most important, frantically scribbling notes in hopes that we are covering the things on the big tests. With Kaplan, I don’t have to worry about that quite so much.
You can get test prep help, tutoring and help building college resumes all at the convenience of your laptop or phone. How easy and convenient for those students who are stuck in their dorms studying the night away and cramming before that big test you forgot about! The test prep ranges from SAT, ACT, PSAT, and even big medical and nursing tests such as the NBDE. To me, Kaplan has been a big help in guiding me along and helping me further map out my collegiate decisions. I think anyone in high school or college should most certainly use Kaplan services and the KapMap to help make life a lot easier. Neither Guidance Counselors in High School or Advisers in College ever did me one darn bit of good-if anything they did more harm then good (especially in High School). This sounds like something that will actually help and not hinder.

This is so important for students both in high school and college programs. I had to go in several times to see a counsellor to help decide the best way to get where I wanted to be. The programs can be overwhelming and you dont want to waste time nor money.
we re starting our Freshman year of highschool so this is perfect for us. I’m proud to say son has scored his first scholarship.

We just left college. But I seriously love the idea that kids now can take college classes while in high school so they can have the associates done and behind them when they actually enter college! What a great idea! I definitely agree…college advisers aren’t much help. Even when the husband was working on his bachelors degree…his adviser never was available for him to meet with his to get help with getting the classes into his schedule he needed to graduate. This would have been such a great help!
I finished my Bachelors in 2010 and I can’t recall if I ever met my college adviser. It’s a good thing they had itemized lists of the classes that I needed to take or I don’t know what I would have done. I am glad that Amber has Kaplan to help her.
Education is important – for may having extra support is important to ensure they get a fair shot at doing well.

I always found it difficult to met with the adviser at my college. There were way too many students trying to work with one person. A map like that would have helped me out A LOT!
I wish I had KapMap with my daughter. At least I have found it in time to use for my son.

I feel overwhelmed when I have to think about all of this. I want to get my son on Kapmap because he too has a “counselor” at the Jr. College that is no help and I am no help either. Feels good to have some direction!
My son used Kaplan to prep for his tests last year and we’ll be using them again this year to get ready for college.

Same with my advisor in college, I never saw here except when I was at wits end once. I so could have used something like this back then, I’m sure if it was well laid out for me, I would have been able to make better class choices.
I wish my kids had this when they were all saving for college, this is a great resource for moms and dads too. With three kids that went through college, it is needed.

My son has always struggled in school. This would be great for him. He’s a junior now, it’s the most important year!
My son is a junior in HS, he has always struggled. I’m lucky that he has a great counselor that has been helping him understand what he has to do to get where he wants to go!
