If your daily uniform is a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt with baby food stains, then this is for you. We know that it’s important to dress appropriately for your daily job even if that means that you are chasing babies or changing diapers. But there are also several important pieces of clothing every mom needs to have in her closet for times other than day to day activities.
Clothing Every Mom Needs: A Fun Dress Outfit
Whether you attend a church service every weekend or just go out to eat occasionally, clothing every mom needs definitely includes a fun dress-up outfit. This is handy to have for special banquets, Easter or Mother’s Day or just a dinner out with friends. This can be a simple sun dress or even a pair of dressy capris. Even moms who are spending most of their time cleaning up after kids can look pulled together if they have 1 (or several) ready-to-go casual outfits in their closet. And don’t forget the power of a great bracelet, set of earrings or purse to give the finishing touches and make you look ready to tackle the world.
Clothing Every Mom Needs: A Simple Cardigan
With a simple white cardigan, you can transition a sundress into an outfit for a cool night out. Cardigans also give a touch of class to an otherwise normal, everyday outfit. With a nice cardigan, you can also get more wear out of short sleeve tops when the spring throws in an unexpected rain or damp night at you. Moms know how necessary it is to be prepared for the unexpected.
Clothing Every Mom Needs: A Serious Outfit
Whether you are planning to attend a graduation or have an unexpected funeral, you need a serious outfit that is ready for the unplanned event. This does not have to be the standard little black dress but it needs to be something classic that you can dress up for the events that call for a step up from every day casual. Make sure you plan the accessories that are needed for this emergency outfit (shoes, accessories, purse). You don’t want to have to scramble for what to wear if you find yourself in need of the dressy outfit for this kind of event.
Do you have the essentials in your closet ready to go for any occasion? It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to walk out of the house looking confident and ready to go. You just need to do a little planning ahead.

I have them all!! Woo hoo! I am more of a blazer kind of person, but I do have a black cardigan I use every now and then ๐
My wardrobe — pajamas! We homeschool in our pj’s most days unless we have a play date or field trip! LOL!
I love easy things you can cover up with. A nice blazer with cute top, or sweater. You can dress it up or down and make it look your own. Every woman needs clothes she feels great in!!
I am using this blog post as an excuse to go shopping for myself! ๐ I do need these items.
Definitely use it as an excuse to shop! Glad that we could be of service. ๐
I agree with you 100%. You dont want to have to add the stress of going out and find something to wear to any of the occasions you mentioned when you are invited especially on short notice! I also agree that some easy and inexpensive pieces of jewelry can really make the difference on an outfit.
I definitely need to add a fun outfit to my wardrobe. I have too much that is casual.
I just went shopping with my best friend this weekend and added the “fun outfit” to my closet. Love it!
My style is very classic, casual. Although I can often be found working in my pajamas. ๐
This is so true! I find myself in yoga pants so much that when it comes time for an event that I have to dress up, I’m kinda at a loss! I need to take this advice to heart!
I agree with everything on this list, but especially the cardigan! I get cold easily, so I always have a cute cardigan with me.
This is so true! I do indeed think I have all of them! Total win! Now.. I need some new ones because I’ve been wearing the same things forever now!
Sweats or pajamas used to work for me at home, but now I am out in public more. I have only a couple pieces that work. It is past time for me to add to my wardrobe.
I agree with you completely on this list! Every mom – and any woman, really – needs these key items to be ready for any outing!
This is so good. I am trying to balance my closet out. A well-rounded closet for mommy!
Oh boo! Missing the simple cardigan ๐ Well, guess who needs to go shopping this week?!
Great ideas! I think I would add a comfy pair of jeans, but I guess not everyone keeps those in the closet. I need to go shopping!
I think that comfy jeans are a must, too, but most people probably already have those. ๐
I agree. I need to work on the serious outfit! I seem to always be confused when I need something like that!
I really could use a wardrobe makeover! Some days I totally expect the folks from “What not to Wear” to snatch me up.
Hahahaha! I know exactly how you feel there!
Wow, I think every Mom totally needs everything on this list. I need to add some more to my wardrobe, more serious outfits.
I definitely need more serious outfits, myself. I am more of a laid back kind of girl.
I have oodles of cardigans and I use them in the way you suggest here. I probably do need to work on the serious outfit though!
Every mom needs a watm, soft pair of fleece pajamas! So comfy!
Oh no! I don’t have any of those! But you are right. I totally need some. ๐
Yes! I agree! And I also think every mom needs something that makes her feel sexy for Daddy. It is something that moms sometimes forget…but also find out it what they need. Feeling good shows! And often it starts with how you look and feel. ๐
Awesome point. Everyone needs to feel hot for Daddy!
Love what Tara said!
We have to make sure we have something that makes us feel fantastic and hot.
I agree that every mom needs a nice simple cardigan, I have quite a few actually including a white one. It is part of my mom uniform.
I’m not a mother, but I completely agree with having a cardigan to pair with multiple outfits. In my case, I have a simple black 3/4 length sleeve cardigan that goes with virtually all of my outfits. It’s also machine washable, which is a must for me as a future elementary school teacher!
