Help Build Your Child’s Self Esteem With Dove #ad #GirlsUnstoppable

October 28, 2013 by Dawn McAlexander

Dove® Self Esteen Building ~

Dove Just Us Girls self esteem projec

We see models everywhere. We see an ideal of beauty portrayed in movies, print ads and television that can be incredibly difficult to achieve. We all know that this can produce unreal expectations in girls about how they should look. What I love about Dove is that they work hard to share the message that all girls are beautiful, not just girls who are 5’9″ and weigh 115 pounds.

Models and Self Esteem

My daughter is currently doing a research paper for school about the affects of advertising on girl’s perceptions of their selves. What she has learned is that when girls see certain images {models, etc}, it often affects them subconsciously. Girl’s often feel they should look like these “ideals” that are often just not what their bodies are made to look like. This can cause life long self esteem issues in girls that are not easily overcome.

Many girls are so affected by what they think others think about their looks that they stop doing things they love. Their self esteem becomes very poor and that fear and self loathing takes over their lives. Everyone deserves to feel good about themselves and have happy, fulfilled lives.

That’s why Kroger has teamed up with the Dove® Self-Esteem Project to help reach more than 15 million girls with self-esteem building programs by 2015. Proceeds from every purchase of Dove® products goes to helping girls across the country reach their full potential.

What Can You Do To Help?

Downloading the Dove Self-Esteem Toolkit for activities that can help you and your girls build self esteem. Have a Just Us Girls Night and share this campaign with your friends. Don’t forget to join the #GirlsUnstoppable conversation online. The goal is to create generations of girls who love themselves and what they see in the mirror. And you can be part of that!

Dove Just Us Girls Self Esteem Project Toolkit

Dove® has also partnered with the Boys and Girls Club, Girls Scouts and Girls Inc. to further expand its mission to help girls reach their full potential. Want to get in on the action? Buy Dove® at Kroger. Every time you make a purchase, it helps provide self-esteem programs for girls across the country. Dove® has reached more than 11 million girls to date, with a goal of reaching 4 million more by 2015.

I absolutely love this idea! I agree with the media always trying to sell us a false image of what women should look like in real life. Learning to love yourself from the inside out is so important! I think I will be downloading this and doing a girls night with some friends and their daughters.

I grew up with a musical background, play piano, some guitar, and sing. I was able to use those talents in amateur bands, choir, and while I was in the Air Force for events. Still, one of my greatest joys was soloing for a friend’s wedding.
