I really love cook books. Not that I am the greatest cook or anything, but I love looking at the pictures and imagining myself as some Martha White type cooking up some tasty love for the family. And We Laugh We Cry We Cook by Becky Johnson and Rachel Randolph is just the kind of cookbook I like.

We Laugh We Cry We Cook is by the mother and daughter duo, Becky Johnson and Rachel Randolph. It’s a cookbook with stories thrown in about their lives. To be honest, I mostly wanted to review it for the cookbook part, because I have been in a reading slump lately, but this book is pretty funny in parts so I loved that.

For instance, Becky {the mom} makes a banner for Rachel {the daughter} when she comes home from the hospital with her new baby. Becky thinks to herself how her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education helped her with the banner.

Perfect. It looked exactly as though a Kindergartner had made it. I’m so thankful my college education was not a waste.

Bwahahaha. She goes on to tell about a redneck version of Chopped that sounded oddly like the menu plan in my home. I kid, I kid.

For all of you with children: I think that you will enjoy this book. It’s simple and sweet. A mother and daughter share their stories while cooking – kind of reminds me of the Golden Girls – everything is better with cheesecake, no? Oh, and funny people! Wait until you read about the stone that gets “stuck in the sword!” Ha!

Now let me share with you one of the tasty recipes from We Laugh We Cry We Cook!

 

No Stress Sangria Recipe

 

You will need…

1 part chilled lemon-lime or grapefruit soda – I used Fresca because it’s my fave

1 part chilled Merlot or Cabernet – I used a leftover Biltmore Estate Cabernet because that is what we had on hand

slices of citrus – I used clementine

Ice – I used the kind from the freezer 😛

 

In a glass or pitcher, mix equal parts soda and red wine, Mix with ice and any slices of citrus you like. That’s it!

Now that’s my kind of recipe. 😉

 

We used one can of Fresca and what was left in our wine bottle for the Sangria recipe. We used the all scientific “look test,” {i.e. it “looked” even so we used it} and it was super tasty. Cheers!
