Gift Cards ~

We all know that our mamas {or mama figures} like to dish out a lot of advice. After all, they have been around a little while longer than we have, so they have probably seen and learned a thing of two in their day. That is what I like to tell my daughter anyway. ๐ To say thank you, as part of a sponsored Fashionista opportunity made available through Coupons.com, we will be giving away $50 Kohl’s and Nordstrom gift cards to TEN winners!
The Best Advice My Mama Ever Gave Me

I have always considered my aunts to be awesome mother figures. They have each given me some pretty good advice over the years. What is really cool is that they are both totally different so I often get different perspectives on the same topic. My aunt Mary is loyal {sometimes to a fault} but sometimes you just want someone to take your side, you know? I love how she just listens and tries to see the best in you, even when you aren’t necessarily acting the best you can. She has always told me that you should stand by people and let them know that you care. She sometimes gets hurt for this in the end, but she is still loyal to those that she loves.

My other aunt, Marge, taught me that you could take a situation and make it better. She taught me that the situation that we are in is not what defines us and that we often have the power to change things, with a little hard work. That is a really empowering thing to learn. She has helped me out of several jams that I have either gotten myself into or that were beyond my control. Though I don’t always say it, I really appreciate it and will never forget it. She taught me that there are people who are willing to help. You just have to ask.

Organization is the key to efficiency!
The Best Advice my mother ever gave me was that I needed to exercise and eat healthy. I have a love of Fitness and Nutrition today and still exercise with my mom.
Remember the good days to get through the bad. Life is hard and long and there are more bad than good. Hold onto the good memories.
save for a rainy day
She was not one to give advice, I can’t remember any she gave me.
Marriage, family…you have to put in some work but it’s worth it in the end.
Also, that she loves me.
My mother used to say to us girls “Pretty is as Pretty does.” What it basically means is treat others as you want to be treated. Be kind to everyone and everyone will be kind to you. I have tried to teach my children the same thing. You just never know how someone elses day is going or what is going on in their lives. So a llittle kindness can go a long way.
My mom has always taught me the importance of keeping the lines of communication open with your children. Always listen with an open mind and an open heart.
My mother always told be to be careful who you trust, be true to yourself and honest
My grandmother told me late in her life to stop worrying about what I’ve done in the past–even badstuff– because what I will regret in the end is what I wish I HAD done but didn’t.
don’t go to bed angry
the best advice my mother ever gave me was to never give up or let anyone stop me from achieving my dreams ๐
My mother taught me to be comfortable in my own skin and advised to live without regret.
I can’t remember any real advice my mother gave me – sadly. However, she did instill in me a good work ethic.
The best advice my Mother gave me was to be honest with myself and others
The best advice my mother gave me is to always have a savings account for myself so I would never have to be in a financial bind if my marriage ended. I’m glad to say my marriage is 30 years strong but I still give my 3 daughters the same advice to be financially independent.
That was very good advice! And I am glad it was not needed. ๐
I honestly can’t think of a thing. I tried too!
Always be true to yourself.
My best advice my mom gave me was too be true too yourself. Never change for someone else be yourself. Do what makes you happy.
The best advice my mom gave to me is — I didn’t bring you into this world to be someone’s doormat, think for yourself, trust your instincts and don’t go to jail.
I have 2 ex husbands who can tell you that I took that advice to heart. lol.
Lol!
My mom told me to always be honest.
My mother has always told me to pick a man that loves me for me and I have followed her advice
The best advice my mom gave me was to not run with scissors.
She is the one who taught me how to coupon. If not for her I would probably be a wasteful grocery shopper.
My mom taught me not to listen to what others say about me or the way I look. Did wonders for my self esteem growing up.
That is definitely great advice. It’s how you feel about yourself that really matters. ๐
She always told me to be my own advocate and use my voice.
I never had a mother or mother figure but my music teacher always told us, “You make your own luck.” which made me try harder in life! ๐
Mom never really gave me advice but she always was a good example to me.
Maybe her best advice was walking the walk instead of talking the talk. ๐
A minute on the lips, forever on the hips
how to be a mom
Always know how to do things for yourself around the house, that way if you have a man he can do it for you and when you don’t, you didn’t need a man no way :)!
Hahaha! Love it!
Nothing is worth stressing and getting sick over. I guess that’s where I got my Oh well..moving along attitude. lol
Do things your own way. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks as long as you are happy.
The best advice my mother ever gave me was simple: There’s no reason not to stop to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Your child is YOUR child and you know what’s best for them!
she told me marriage isnt about finding someone you can live with its about finding someone you cant live without. id never heard that quote until she said it but i love it!
My mother always told me to follow my heart and believe in myself. Never change for anyone and be who you are no matter what. She gave me the confidence to become what I am now.
my mother always told me to mind my own business because it is a full time job
Lol! Love it!
She told me that I should choose a job that I loved, so work would never feel like it is work.
Never let anyone stop you from doing what you love!
To follow my dreams.
To be independent – so I went away to college, farther away to grad school and then moved to another state (where I still live) for a job.
My mom always said, “You made your bed, now lie in it.” She never interfered in her kids’ marital problems but was there when you needed her to lean on.
My mom tole me that tomorrow is a new day so anything that you have done wrong you can try to rectify the next day or learn from it
To always look for deals, use coupons, and do price comparison. However, if you see a pair of cute shoes you like, buy them, because if you wait for them to go on sale, they won’t be there when you go back! (She’s been right every time! lol!)
My mom never gave me any real “advice” but more lead by example…she’s an amazing business woman who got to the top of her field long LONG before it was an industry that women could be in.

Best advice my Mom gave me,is always be yourself!
Be kind to people . learn to cook
Making your own mistakes is better than making someone elses.
best advice i can think of was being told to not care what other people think about me and just to be myself
my mom didn’t really give advice, but she taught me unconditional love every single day. lead by example, is how i would say it.
You can tell a lot about a man; if you look at his friends.
I wasn’t raised by my mother, but my grandmother is my closest mother figure, and when I hit puberty and started to gain weight (I have always been the token “fat kid” of my family–everyone else is built like my dad and his side of the family and I am the complete opposite) she told me to never dislike my body for any reason, especially if a guy didn’t like me because of it, because all you have to do is wait and someone who loves the way you look will come around. She was right.
That was great advice. Anyone who would judge simply on how they think your body should look has a shallow personality that I will judge them on. ๐
My mothers best advice was not to worry about people who don’t like you without reason, that you don’t need to be adored and loved by all to be a whole and happy person.
Not to get pregnant in my teens. So I got pregnant at 20! My sister and me, both. ๐
Hahaha!
She let me be myself! I had crazy lesbian haircuts (I didn’t know I got a lesbian haircut!), I wore the same outfit for 2 years in a row for school pics (orange levi’s and a blue and black floral shirt with shoulder pads, because contrasting colors were in style!?).
Hahaha! Love it!
Some of the best advice my Mom gave me was to go with my gut feeling. When you know something’s right or wrong just trust yourself.
My mom always told me to never marry a man with two first names… So of course the man I’m engaged to has a “first” name as a last name -thus two first names ๐
Hahahaha! At least you didn’t marry a man with 3 first names, or a hyphenated last name that sounds like he has 4 first names. Your mom would have freaked!
When I was young my mom would say ” The only thing out after midnight is the devil!”I use to laugh and call her a worrier but I just said the same thing to my son last week!
Hahaha!
My Mom was dispensing advise all the time. The one I remember the most is always said remember you are #1 and believe 1/2 of what you see and nothing that you hear.
learn to cook something basic! It’s crazy that sum adults can even boil water to make pasta!
Lol!
“You can’t control what other people say or do, but you can control how it makes you feel.”
there are two kinds of lies. the ones you tell yourself and the ones you tell others. the person you lie to the most is yourself…don’t!
Follow your intuition.
This is kind of goofy but my mother advised me when decorating my home to make sure my furniture and appliances were neutral, because it’s easier to paint fun colors on the walls than replace all those things when I want a new look. Great advice from her that I have always remembered. ๐
To not compare myself to others.
Best Advice from my Mom: Always have your own savings/checking account. Save your money. Pay your tithes. Realize your children will grow up. It always works out for good in the end.
Believe in yourself.
My momma taught me to never settle!
Focus on your inner beauty before you worry about your outer beauty.
There’s so much good advice my mom gave me…
But one of the many I’ve passed onto my boys is:
“Treat other the way YOU want to be treated.” and my son @ 13 is very respectful and courteous.
The verdict is out on the 17 month old. LOL!
Hahaha!
Mom was awesome!!
You get more beautiful on the inside as you age. Don’t forget!
hmmm….. i can’t think of any specific advice…though she does like to jokingly sy about one’s spouse…. “you are the one who picked them from the garden of love”. ๐
To always appreciate the hard times or things you don’t want to do but “have” to, because those times give you character.
