Super Bowl XLVII: NFL Conference Championships Update and Game Highlights @Superbowl #sb47

Super Bowl XLVII: NFL Conference Championships Update ~

Lombardi Trophy Super Bowl

Well, here we are, just a few days away from Super Bowl XLVII, and we finally know who will be playing in the game! Did you guess correctly? Let’s find out!

Super Bowl XLVII: Conference Championships

Georgia Dome

The NFL Conference Championships kicked off at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta with the Atlanta Falcons hosting the San Francisco 49ers for the right to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. It looked early on as if the Falcons would walk away with it easily when they jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the second quarter. However, after some adjustments at halftime, the 49ers began to figure out how to get past the Falcons’ stingy defense and began to come back, pulling to within three in the third quarter, 24-21. Finally, the 49ers grabbed the lead in the fourth quarter when Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore scored a touchdown from 17 yards out. This puts the 49ers up 28-24.

But, the Falcons were not done yet. They drove down the field with a little over a minute left on the clock. Despite a separated left shoulder, Falcons quarterback Matt Flynn stayed in the game and attempted to complete the comeback. But his pass to wide receiver Roddy White on fourth down was batted down incomplete, giving the 49ers the ball and the game! The 49ers win 28-24 and will travel to New Orleans to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XLVII.

250K Party - Gillette Stadium

The NFL Conference Championships continued in the AFC in Foxboro, Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium where the New England Patriots played host to the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC Championship. It was a surprise to see the Ravens, led by quarterback Joe Flacco, be so efficient on offense, which is normally not their m.o. They outplayed Tom Brady and the Patriots for the majority of the game, but trailed 13-7 late in the third quarter.

Ray Rice

However, the fourth quarter belonged to the Ravens, who scored 21 unanswered points to take the lead and, eventually, the game by a score of 28-13. The Ravens had touchdowns from running back Ray Rice, tight end Dennis Pitta, and two dramatic ones from wide receiver Anquan Boldin to defeat the New England Patriots and move on to represent the AFC in Super Bowl XLVII.

John Harbaugh

And, there you have it! We now know who will be playing in Super Bowl XLVII! It will be the San Francisco 49ers from the NFC and the Baltimore Ravens from the AFC. One extremely interesting side note to this matchup is that the Ravens are coached by John Harbaugh and the 49ers are coached by Jim Harbaugh. The two are brothers! As far as anyone can recollect, no two siblings have ever faced each other in any major professional team sport for a championship ever! Wouldn’t you hate to be their mother right now?

Harbaugh points the way...

Who is your pick to win Super Bowl XLVII?

We watched a cool show about the brothers today on ESPN! Certainly does make for an extra bit of fun. I dont care much fir either team but the fact that they are well matched should make for a great game! Thanks for the informational post – I am seriously going to casually toss out some of the facts during the game and stun my son and husband with my new interest and knowledge – I will love seeing the look of disbelief on their faces LOL!!

I have to admit I don’t follow football much but I love the story of Blindside. When I hear the back stories of some of the players the Super Bowl becomes more personal to me. Thanks for the facts so I won’t be a complete idiot tomorrow!

Up until now the only thing I knew was the coaches were brothers. I have company coming over for our party of which I had planned to cook, I learned one bought a new Jeep which I have always wanted one so I am hoping they will be to interested in the game to realize there is no food because I am sneaking the keys to go fora long ride. You enjoy the Super Bowl your way, I will enjoy it mine, lol!!!!
