Celebrate Enduring And Unlikely Friendships On Friendship Day

You may have seen Johnetta Dawson’s posts on here. She and I have been friends since we were in our teens. We met at the school’s Upward Bound program and remained friends throughout high school. Then life got in the way and we fell out of touch for a few years, but we became good friends again when we ran into each other on Facebook and found out that we happened to live only a few miles away from each other!

Johnetta and I have always had a lot in common. In school, I thought she was outgoing and funny. And just like me, she starts laughing and can’t stop, whether it’s inappropriate or not. 😉 Sometimes it gets me the side eye as I am sure it has her, too. If it’s funny, it’s funny. Right? I like that in a person.

I like how both Johnetta and I seem to be confused as to which way the camera is.

We even got married just a few weeks apart. We hadn’t gotten reacquainted again, yet, but we would very soon. So that was a funny coincidence.

Johnetta and I are both pretty crafty and inventive with our money, lol. We aren’t rich but we like to think we are. So, we are both great at finding a good deal. 😀 And we always share the intel with each other, too. She also has an awesome green thumb, which I do not happen to possess, but she always shares her plants with me. That is awesome because I think my yard looks pretty sweet and it has absolutely nothing to do with any talent on my part. Thanks, Johnetta. You got my back, girl. 😉

I really want to celebrate unlikely friendships in this post. Even though Johnetta and I have a lot in common, we also lost touch for a few years. It’s great that we re-met. And it’s pretty unlikely for people to be almost lifelong friends, especially someone like me who doesn’t like most everyone I meet {just kidding. sort of.} so I think it’s awesome that mine and Johnetta’s friendship is one of my longest I have ever had. Now we chat almost every single day and I really appreciate her even though I don’t always say it. I am just not a mooshy, lovey person like that and I am glad that Johnetta is cool with that, lol. 🙂

Another Unlikely Friendship: Victoria And abdul

Another unlikely friendship that I am looking forward to learning more about is that of Victoria & Adbul which celebrates the friendship of Queen Victoria and a clerk from India. The film, which is based on a true story, is scheduled to release on September 22nd.

Victoria and Abdul releases in New York and Los Angeles on September 22, 2017 and to additional cities on September 29 and October 6 and it tells the extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria’s (Academy Award winner Judi Dench) remarkable rule. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favor with the Queen herself. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position, the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy. As the friendship deepens, the Queen begins to see a changing world through new eyes and joyfully reclaims her humanity.

Directed by Stephen Frears (“The Queen,” “Philomena,” “Mrs. Henderson Presents”) and written by Lee Hall (“Billy Elliot”), the movie is based on Victoria & Abdul: The True Story of the Queen’s Closest Confidant by Shrabani Basu. The cast includes Judi Dench, Ali Fazal, Eddie Izzard, Adeel Akhtar, Tim Pigott-Smith, Olivia Williams, Fenella Woolgar, Paul Higgins, Robin Soans, Julian Wadham, Simon Callow, and Michael Gambon.

Maybe I can drag Johnetta to the movie theater to see this one with me. 😉
