How To Make The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich #sponsored #MC #RomanMeal

The grilled cheese sandwich has become an American classic. Just like baseball and hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches have become a part of the American culture. However, lots of people think that to make a grilled cheese sandwich you only have to slap a slice of cheese between two pieces of bread and grill it. Eeek! There is a proper way to make a grilled cheese sandwich, people! An art, if you will.

What Goes Into Making The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich

The grilled cheese sandwich has arguably been around since the Roman Empire, but it is believed that the modern day grilled cheese sandwich started in the 1920s. Either way, it is a huge part of American life, basically because it is cheap, quick and delicious. Now, that’s my type of meal! And the first step in making the perfect grilled cheese sandwich is choosing the right cheeses {yes, plural} and bread. We prefer Swiss Cheese, White American Cheese and Roman Meal Bread.

How To Make The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich #sponsored #MC #RomanMeal

Anyway, as I said earlier, there is a proper technique to make a grilled cheese sandwich, and it is NOT putting a slice of cheese between two slices of bread and grilling it {or microwaving it}. If that’s your idea, then you are missing out on sooo much flavor. There are hundreds of different recipes and variations on the grilled cheese sandwich, but I will share my own personal recipe with you here, which we call the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. To make the perfect grilled cheese sandwich, you will need:

How To Make The Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich

You will need…
2 slices of Roman Meal bread
1/2 tablespoon of butter
2 slices of white American cheese
1 slice of Swiss cheese (deli slices preferred)

Roman Meal bread is always baked fresh, locally in regional bakeries across the United States to delivering freshly baked bread to your local grocery store.

We like Roman Meal bread because it is made fresh locally. Who doesn’t love fresh? Trust me. You can taste the difference. Roman Mealโ€™s Whole Grains are also a good source for vitamin D, calcium, and fiber! This means that your tasty comfort food doesn’t have to be bad for you anymore.

Preparation…
First, prepare your skillet on the stove top by placing it on a suitable eye just below medium heat. Add the butter to the skillet and allow it to melt and spread throughout the bottom of the skillet.

While the butter is melting, build your sandwich by adding one of the slices of white American cheese to one of the Roman Meal bread slices, then add the slice of Swiss cheese. Next, add the other slice of white American cheese and top it off with the other slice of Roman Meal bread.

When the butter starts to bubble on the skillet, it is ready for grilling. Add the sandwich to the skillet and cover the skillet. If you have a clear lid, this is best. Allow to grill just until the cheese starts to melt (about two minutes). Then, flip the sandwich over and allow it to grill for an additional minute. Remove from the skillet and allow it to cool for about a minute, then enjoy!

I love Swiss cheese on a grilled cheese. I like it alone on rye sometimes. Cheddar is another fave. But I think this combo is awesome too!

I love grilled cheese. Simple works best for me if there is to be dunking of Tomato soup! Otherwise, I love fancy grilled cheeses with a mixture of cheese. Avocado works well in there too.

I haven’t tried it with avocado, but I really love it. I will have to try that soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Dawn McAlexander says

      September 21, 2014 at 8:52 pm

That is definitely true. If you start it out too hot, it will just burn and the cheese won’t melt.

Swiss cheese is my favorite on grilled cheese sandwiches. It reminds me of being a kid! We’d have them every payday, as my dad would go to the Amish market down the street and get their Swiss cheese and we’d made grilled cheese from it! I miss that cheese, as where I live it is not available.

My favorite sandwich is good bread with sliced leftover roast chicken. But in thinking about what I might make with a loaf of Roman Meal bread, it occurs to me that it’s been a long time since I made French toast, which I absolutely love. Maybe for Sunday breakfast tomorrow!
