Copying Your Idol’s Fashion: Not Always a Good Idea #fashionfriday

In our world, we get most of our fashionable inspiration from seeing celebrities ( monkey see, monkey do). Sometimes the inspiration can be great, but other times it can be horrible. For instance, it seems that one celebrity that is commonly getting criticized for her fashion decisions is Lady Gaga. Although some may call her brave for wearing what she wants and not caring what others think about it, most seem to judge harshly on her for it. Although I, myself, am a fan of Gaga, I would have to say that I would never wear some of the things she wears, even though I do find her brave for wearing it.

Another celebrity that gets bashed on often for her wardrobe selection is Nicki Minaj. Although Nicki’s attire isn’t as drastic as Gaga’s, her’s is still pretty wild! She tends to wear things that are eye catching because of their brightness!

Although some celebrities can be “bad” influences in the fashion world, some are not. For instance, one celebrity that seems to get a lot of credit for dressing astonishing most of the time is Beyonce. This year, she even won one of the spots in Mr. Blasburg’s Best-Dressed List: New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 Edition. The fabulous dress that caught her this infamous role was “ a sexy black leather maternity dress with cutout paneling”.

Who’s fashion would you most definitely NOT copy?

  1. I can’t see why anyone would want to dress like Lady Gaga – those are not outfits, those are stage props LOL!

  2. It’s amazing what the stars have to do to get noticed! Some are amazing but others are REALLY DIFFERENT!

  3. I have to agree with you. I would definitely never dress like Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj!

  4. I can’t say that any of the celebrities have fashion that I’d want to copy. Of course, I tend to be more conservative anyways.

  5. Haha – so true! Can’t trust everyone’s taste or style, because some are just wrong!

  6. Okay, I have no fashion sense, but some of these are just crazy… LOL

  7. Never in a million years would I dress like them!

  8. I am not ever going to dress like lady gaga! Maybe for Halloween! lol

  9. What a fun post! I just remember the crazy shoes that GaGa wore on SYTYCD… and then she threw them to the dancers on stage, lol. That woman is CRAZY!

  10. I honestly dont know why anyone would want to dress like Lady GaGa or how Madonna did.
But to each his own. I guess if they really want to stand out in a crowd or to turn everybodies head this is the way to dress. Maybe for a party or for Halloween would be okay, but not any other time. Girls need to know that just because they like her songs doesnt mean they have to act or look like her.

  11. If I were to copy a celebrity, I’d go with the classics – like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe… or 80’s Madonna 😉 LOL

Well, for one thing, they’re celebrities so people pay more attention to them. I’ve never followed what everyone calls “fashion”. I’ve always dressed in what I feel comfortable in, never following the latest fads, except when I was young and a certain style of shoes were in style with a really big clunky sole and heel. Can’t tell you how many times I fell out of those. Since then I’ve never really followed fads. I always say to each his or her own.

While I may be impressed, embarrassed, fascinated, or even shocked by artists styles, I don’t really want to copy them. I agree with the commentor that stated that they are costumes. Often worn for show or to keep an image. I often applaud their way of expressing themselves but some can go too far to the disgusting level.

I understand that they want to show off their style and personality but I want them to at least be covered and respectful when they know people are going to be watching. At red carpet events the lights and publicity make it important for them to be halfway decent. Beyonce shows off style and class, too. Everyone’s going to have a bad dress/hair/outfit day. Not everyone is going to like your choice. It’s good that there are so many options out there.
