You may be tempted to do a complete overhaul of your room after binging on those interior decor magazines and shows. In reality though, these spaces cost thousands of dollars to create. You might not be able to afford the renovations required to make these spaces, but it doesn’t mean it’s the end of your interior design dreams. With a little bit creativity, you too can decorate your room without breaking the bank. Here are some ways you can do that.
How To Decorate Your Room On A Budget
1. Rearrange the furniture
Moving around your furniture costs zero dollars and is a good excuse to exercise. Move major furniture around in your room and see if you can position it in a way that makes the space feel fresh again. Change the orientation of the bed or place furniture by the window. Maybe add in furniture from another room, or get rid of one so it feels less stuffy. With the right arrangement, you can completely change how a room feels.
2. Shop secondhand
Plenty of beautiful furniture and decor can be found at secondhand shops. Find a garage sale, thrift store, or flea market in your area for the best deals on items that are still in great condition. You’ll be surprised at the abundant amount of goodies you will find from vintage lamps to quirky artwork. The best thing about these finds is that they add a lot of character to a room. You can also do a little DIY project yourself to make an old-looking furniture look brand new again.
3. Paint the walls
Repainting the walls is an inexpensive way to make a room feel new again. Research on some hues and the mood they evoke. How do you want your room to be? Romantic? Calm? Beach-like? There are plenty of design styles to choose from. Then, it’s all just a matter of choosing the right color(s) to paint your walls with.
4. Think fabrics
Patterns on your pillows, bedsheets, rugs, and curtains can make a huge difference to a room. Start with your bedding first. You can do matchy-matchy or mix it up with bright colors and patterns. Add in a wedge pillow for comfort, maybe? If you have chairs, wrap up the cushions with a different fabric. And the floors? The right size rug can make waking up everyday feel more luxurious.
5. Adjust the lights
The right lighting can bring out the beauty of a room. If you’re not feeling good about your decor, it could just be because of bad lighting. Consider adding in more lights to your space. And more than that, pick the color of the lighting wisely. We now have lighting fixtures that allow you to switch to different hues ranging from bluish white to warm yellow. If you want your room to feel more relaxing, opt for bulbs that emit soft white or yellowish white light.
6. Add an accessory
The right piece of well-placed items can instantly brighten up a room. It can be something as simple as an indoor plant, a candle, a vase of fresh flowers, or a framed polaroid picture. These are ways to showcase your personality so a place feels more like home to you . Don’t be afraid to add in little bits and pieces of your personal knick knacks throughout your room.
7. Avoid clutter
This may seem contradictory to the tip above, but hear us out. There’s such a thing as beautiful clutter, and then there’s ugly clutter, the kind that makes you feel irritated every time you look at it. Clean up unwanted clutter in your room. It’s free and therapeutic. You may also want to invest in storage that you can hide or use as furniture.
