8 Tips For Updating Your Kitchen On A Budget

5 Tips For Updating Your Kitchen On A Budget

Whether you like to cook or not, you probably spend more time in the kitchen each day than in any other room in your house. Depending on how you feel about your kitchen, spending so much of your day there might prove a bit depressing. Maybe it’s been a while since you last updated the room. Maybe all that olive green Formica and robin’s egg blue linoleum takes you back to 1982 more often that you would like. Maybe the dated cabinets and the ancient appliances make you dread even stepping foot in there.

8 Tips For Updating Your Kitchen On A Budget

We feel your pain. We also understand how expensive renovating or updating a kitchen can be. So much so, that such costs can make updating seem like little more than a pipe dream. However, we’re here to tell you not to lose hope. There are many ways you can spruce up your kitchen without breaking the bank and increase the value of your home.

If that sounds interesting to you, read on for our budget tips for updating your kitchen:

1. Paint your cabinets. New cabinets aren’t cheap. But guess what? Paint is, comparatively speaking. Find a color you like that will complement a color in your kitchen you can’t afford to change (like appliances or flooring). You’ll be amazed at how painting your cabinets alone will change the entire mood in your kitchen.

2. Paint an accent wall. Like painting your cabinets, this one’s pretty cheap as far as updates go, and it will breathe new life into that stale space. You’ll have to find a shade that works with the existing color palate, and as a general rule, you’ll want to go with something darker than the rest of the room.

3. Pendant lights. Cheap, easy, and often striking, a pendant light can be just that little pop of newness your kitchen needs. Coming in an almost infinite array of styles and colors, the sky’s the limit. Get something neutral or find something truly bold and eccentric. Or get several and change the pendant up as the mood strikes you.

4. Change out pulls and handles. Like pendant lights, pulls and handles come in a wide range of styles and colors, and they’re affordable to boot. Go sleek and modern, shabby chic, or colorful farmhouse. Whatever style you want to accentuate in your kitchen, you can find it in pulls and handles.

5. Rugs and drapes. An accent rug on the floor, drapes hanging on the windows: these offer more opportunities to bring new colors and patterns into your kitchen. Find something fresh that works with your existing colors and see what a difference it makes.

6. Small appliances. Toasters, blenders, mixers, coffeepots, etc.: these minor appliances can serve as accents to provide your kitchen with a new look. They often come in a variety of colors and styles, and by strategically placing on your counter space (like you might with other decorations), you can bring an exciting new look to your kitchen.

7. Backsplash. Many dated kitchens don’t have a backsplash, and if they do, they’re just as out of sync with the times as the rest of the kitchen. A new backsplash with an updated look, whether a solid color of multi-sized tiles or something with a colorful pattern, can be the new accent your kitchen needs.

8. Modern accoutrements. A modern look is especially in right now, and there’s many ways to use modern products specifically for the kitchen to complement the preexisting look of your kitchen. Doing so will help bring your outdated kitchen in the present without having to do a major overhaul and break the bank.

There you have it. There are literally dozens of ways you can update your kitchen on a budget. We have given eight of our favorites here, and we wish you the best of luck as you update your kitchen on budget. With a little time and effort, we know it will turn out marvelous!

Our kitchen is pretty timeless (or at least I think so). But it’s great to be able to swap out things to make it continually feel fresh.

I have been swapping out things for more vintage-inspired things. I think I’m going back in time! But I love making my kitchen, where I spend a large chunk of my time, feel like a place I want to be.

Great tips. Our new kitchen (we just moved) is super small but I plan to do what I can to make it look great even for such a small space!

Changing the back splash can be a great way to update your kitchen. I just did mine with tile. Adding a rug is a great idea to.
