Rinse, Recycle, Reimagine With Unilever For A Brighter Future #ad #ReimagineThat

May 10, 2015 by Dawn McAlexander

Rinse. Recycle. Reimagine: #ReimagineThat Empty Container #adCheap Is The New Classy

We humans waste a lot. Unilever wants to inspire us not to make small steps to waste less daily. “Rinse. Recycle. Reimagine.” is a new program Unilever is launching in partnership with Keep America Beautiful and the Ad Council. Did you know that you can recycle most of the product packaging that you use in the bathroom? Well, this program is designed to help educate people about recycling in the bathroom. Unilever also aims to inspire you to reimagine what empty bathroom products could become through recycling, and ultimately inspire you to make small changes that impact the environment in a positive way.

Rinse. Recycle. Reimagine. With Unilever

The new “Unilever Bathroom Recycling Index” is an online survey commissioned by Unilever and conducted by KRC Research, uncovered the following about bathroom recycling habits in the United States:

Lots of people understand that recycling is something they should do, but many don’t follow through…

In fact, less than half (34%) of people surveyed report always bringing empty bathroom items to the recycling bin. In comparison, 86% of Americans claim to always recycle in general, and nearly half (46%) reported always recycling kitchen recyclables.

Many Americans also report being confused about the recycling process in general…

42% claim that they don’t recycle because they aren’t sure an item is eligible for recycling. More than a quarter (27%) of Americans are not convinced their recycled items can actually become something new.

And many Americans admit they would just rather be doing something else…

1 in 5 (22%) Americans wouldn’t walk across their home to recycle a bath or beauty bottle. In fact, Americans are more likely to go the distance to get a drink when thirsty, charge their phone, or answer a phone call than walk an empty plastic bottle from the bathroom to the recycling bin.

The average American has 8 products in plastics bottles in their bathroom at a given time {admittedly, there are more than that in my bathroom – 1 in 5 have more than 10 in their bathroom at any given time}, while only 34% of Americans always recycle these bottles when empty.

That’s nearly 600 million plastic bottles that could end up in landfills each year.

Want To Get Involved And Maybe Even Win Something?

Share a photo of empty bathroom plastic containers being recycled on Twitter and Instagram using #ReimagineThat. Want to have a chance to win something? Add #Sweeps to your post to be entered for a chance to win recycled, reimagined prizes.

We do a decent job at recycling, but I know we can do better. Thanks for the reminder.

I have always been huge on recycling. Now that we are rural and do not have that convenient pick up – we still recycle. It is a 40 minute drive to drop the stuff off but we go to town weekly anyway. I love this campaign to help get others to recycle.

What’s even worse than not recycling is the people that think nothing of littering … major pet peeve!! We all really could do better. This is a great campaign to help people think about ways we can improve. 🙂

I am with you on that. I hate driving up the road and seeing garbage on the side.

I wish that our town made recycling easier! They charge for the buckets. It’s crazy.

We actually do really well at recycling. I make it easier by having 2 waste baskets, one for regular garbage and the other is for recycling. I find that helps a lot.

That is a really great idea. People are definitely more likely to do something if it’s easy.

This is very eye opening. I know we went through a ton of bottles with four people living in the house!

We recycle everything that can possibly be recycled. We’re lucky that our city has expended its recycling program to include so many various plastics.

We are big on recycling. I reuse shampoo bottles etc and condiment containers but everything else we recycle! We are pretty good about it all!

I am a huge fan of reclining. I always make sure to recycle as much as I can. I know I will use disposables but that does not mean they have to do more harm to the earth.

My mom always had thought us to recycle stuff especially when what we bought has run out of products already. It’s a good habit to grow from.

recycling is so important yet I forget half the time. It is easier to do it in the kitchen than the bathroom

My family and I are doing very well with recycling, and most of the time we do recycle bathroom products. Or I go around and check trash cans in the bathrooms and pull out all the plastic stuff to recycle.
