We are hosting a Christmas dinner at our home this weekend for some of our family members. So, we would really like the house to look like the holidays, but we also want to decorate in such a way that makes our guest feel at home. We like to do a theme every year and this year we have picked snowmen, so we decided to try out an edible snowman centerpiece for our table.
DIY Edible Snowman Centerpiece
Everything that we needed for our edible snowman centerpiece was easily found at Walmart, including the Hostess Sno Balls that we used to make the snowmen. There is really no hard set of directions to follow to make snowmen, but here is a nice start for you.
You Will Need…
Hostess Sno Balls {3 per snowman}
pretzel sticks {2 per snowman}
candy corn {1 piece per snowman}
Holiday Sixlets {We used 5 per snowman}
black beads {for the mouth, inedible. We used 5-6 per snowman}
icing {just a small amount, perhaps a teaspoon – so save some next time you make a cake, cupcakes, etc.}
straws {1 per snowman}
Preparation…
Stack 3 Hostess Sno Balls on top of each other. Then skewer them with a straw to hold them together.
Stick a pretzel in either side of the snowman for arms. If you think the pretzel arms are too long, be sure to push them in the Sno Balls further until they are the length that you like.
Use the Sixlets for the mouth and bottons. Use the beads for the mouth and the candy corn for the nose. To get them to stick, dip them first in the icing and then press them into the Hostess Sno Ball. Hold them for a few seconds and they will stick well after the icing starts hardening. Finally, snip off the end of the straw.
Finally decorate the table with other snow related items. We like the smaller silver snowflakes and also have used them on our tree this year. We also purchased the two larger ones to use on the table. When you are done with your edible snowman centerpiece, just pull the beads off and throw them out and eat the rest off of the straw. 😉
My daughter and I have made gingerbread houses for as long as we can remember. We might make one again this year, but I thought the snowman scene was a nice change that goes well with our snowman theme. Plus, we really like Hostess Sno Balls. You could also use Hostess products to make other cool holiday decorations besides an edible snowman centerpiece. I think Hostess Twinkies would make an excellent cabin for a village scene or in place of a gingerbread house. You could also use them to make reindeer by adding pretzel sticks for the legs. See what you and your kiddos can come up with. 🙂
