It is perfectly possible for anyone to build a game room that will be suitable both for use with friends and the whole of your family – and these are some games ideas that will make it ideal for both.
Game Room Ideas: Television
This might not seem an obvious gaming choice, but it enables the playing of console video games – which are the kind of thing your kids are most likely to enjoy in a game room. Furthermore, let’s face it – although people talk about these as being fun for kids and teenagers, the chances are you will get a kick out of playing them alongside your family (or friends), so it can be a perfect way for the whole family to enjoy using the room together.
Game Room Ideas: Snooker Or Pool Table
These are always a good choice for a game room – although probably more suitable if you have plenty of room in there. One of the reasons they are such popular selections is because they allow you to hold friendly tournaments against your friends, or just to play a relaxing frame or two with them. If you have children in the teenage bracket, having a pool or snooker table also lets you teach them how to play – making it perfect as a family addition.
Game Room Ideas: Dartboard
This can be a pretty decent alternative to a snooker or pool table, if you don’t have a lot of space in your game room. Again it is something you can use both for tournaments or casual games with friends.
Game Room Ideas: Poker Table
Another very popular choice – especially as all you need is a basic table with some sort of covering. Poker is one of the most popular casino games, with people enjoying playing it both at a land-based casino and at home via online ones such as Gaming Club – and having a poker table in your game room will let you have tournaments with your friends from the comfort of your own room. It’s probably not a game to play with your children though, unless they are flush with pocket money and you have a very understanding spouse.

Growing up, we had a pool table and pinball machine in the basement. I would love to have one of those pinball machines now. If you can even find a good one they can be quite expensive.
Good ideas. I’ve always wanted to build a game room. My hubby would love a pool table.
These are all great ideas! I had a pool table and pinball machine growing up, and it made for hours of entertainment.
I would love to have a pinball machine in my game room. What fun!
We have a dartboard, air hockey table, pool table and a foozeball table in our game room!
That sounds like a great game room. We used to have a foozeball table but got rid of it. We do have a pool table, exercise equipment, a small library and dartboard in ours now. I really want an air hockey table to add to it.
You can’t beat the classics. A dart board and a pool table are mandatory in a game room. The T.V. is a great idea, too.
These are such fun ideas! We always wanted a game room but have never had the space for it.
We had a game room, until the kids came along! Now its over run by toys 🙂 My poor husband, but it will be back soon! 🙂
Great ideas for the game room. I just finished painting ours a new color today. Ours has a wii system in there. This room gets used a lot!
We lived in Alaska for 4 years with the Army and we had a game room for the kids and adults. It sure made life easier and kept us sane! Great ideas!
I would have LOVED a game room with a pool table growing up. Great ideas! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers!

I like this idea.. wish i had the room for it in this house..
Great ideas for a game room. We actually have a game room in our garage. Kids love the time in there. I actually have a full size arcade system in there too. So much fun!
That does sound fun. I would love to have an arcade in mine!
I don’t think a pool table could fit in my whole house, let alone a game room! That said, it is a quintessential piece of furniture for a proper man cave!
That would be so cool to have a game room. Maybe someday..
This will be my ideal game room, when I get my house. I love playing poker. It’s the game that keeps me and my friends close. Thanks for the tips.
A game room with a pool table would be a blast. And help teach math skills!
More than a game room, I would like to call it an entertainment room. The television would most probably be the one most used in our home.
Such great tips and ideas. Thank you for sharing.
I admit I looked up snooker. 🙂
We are a comfort, TV family and think the majority of rooms should have one. Depending upon the size of your room, pool tables are great but think about enough arm room for shooting. Darts is fun but make sure you have a padded area for those wayward darts. 🙂
And that “padded area” should not be a family member! Lol!
Any good game room is going to have a pool table! The poker table is a nice touch.
Great list, we definitely need a pool table.
My sister in law has a great game room. They have a pool table and a ping pong table. The kids love it. So do the adults.
A game room sounds like a great idea. I turned our spare into a playroom since the only playing going on is my kid playing.
Growing up we had our game room in our basement which we used to have a pool table. We had so much fun playing pool against each other as a family. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this list. Now all I need is the room 🙂
What great ideas for a game room! When the kids get bigger, I’m hoping to turn their playroom into a family game room!
Love this stuff! I had a mini pinball machine as a kid and we were always playing ping pong or cards around our house
I live in an apartment right now, but this is definitely a nice idea for the future! Like you said, this would be perfect for friends and family.
I wish we had the room here to make a game room. I would LOVE to have one!
My goal would be to have enough room for a pool table. Not sure it will happen till my kids move out, but a girl can dream. I like your idea of a poker table, takes up less room, but I haven’t gotten into that game yet.
We’ll be moving to our own house next year and though I am still not sure with the idea of a game room, your post helped me a lot in conceptualizing 🙂
Congratulations on your new home. It’s always exciting getting a place of your own. 🙂
I really like this post. It promotes actual human interaction. I have been to several get-togethers and as soon as everyone finds out there’s wifi, boom – they’re all gonna be connected on the net and no one interacts.
Thanks! The more gadgets we get often means the more time we spend plugged in and not socializing in the same way. Though I really love all of the new technology, it is definitely important to make time for face to face interaction.
These are some really great game room ideas. Can’t wait to have more room so that we can have a nice game room in our house!
Gah! I’ve always wanted a game room. Ours would include a bar, a dartboard, big screen TV, with a massive sectional for all of the fam and a pool table. Pipe dreams…as right now I live in a shoebox…but, hey, lotto wins happen all the time, right?! 😛
For real! I just know that mine must be coming very soon. 😉
Some good ideas just wish I had the room to do them all.
These are great ideas! My husband would love a game room!
