Win A Trip To New York From Dove And Family Dollar {US 6/26} #sponsored #FDBeautyIs

June 20, 2014 by Dawn McAlexander

This post is brought to you by Global Influence. All thoughts are my own.

Share a picture of yourself with an inspiring female family member on Twitter or Instagram and you could win a trip to New York from Dove and Family Dollar #FDBeautyIs #sponsored

Do you have a family member that inspires you? I think we all do. I have a few, but today I want to focus on one – my lovely daughter Amber. πŸ™‚ Although Amber is only 17, she is already well on her way to having a college degree. She is dually enrolled in high school and college and when her friends graduate with only a high school diploma, she will have an Associate’s Degree. She also recently secured a job and is planning on taking over her own cell phone bill and car insurance to learn about paying bills.

But this isn’t what makes Amber so special to me. I just wanted to point out a little about her maturity level. Recently Amber passed out at work. She has always been a person who passes out when she gets too hot, doesn’t get enough water, etc. She has fainted at friends’ houses, amusement parks, pretty much everywhere. And now add work to the list. We have told doctors about this and they didn’t seem too concerned {I also did this a lot as a teen} so it’s really just been sort of one of those things.

We have recently seen a new doctor and he has ideas for what he thinks may be the problem. We go back for tests next week for more information. At any rate, most of you reading this were once teens. So you can imagine how she feels fainting in front of people.Β What I find so inspiring about Amber today is that, no matter how embarrassing this is for her, she just goes right back to work. She still hangs out with friends. She hops right back on the rides at amusement parks. She just rocks it.

My daughter @_AmberAliyah_ inspires me to be a better mom. #fdbeautyis #ad Learn more here: http://t.co/SSOD0ToTP2 pic.twitter.com/Fxx1fYWWMD

I would love that. We go to NYC sometimes because we are withing driving distance, but don’t stay overnight all that often!

Your daughter sounds like she has had some great grounding and support growing up to turn out so great! She may inspire you, but it sounds like you gave her the right nourishment for those roots to grow! πŸ™‚

Thank you so much! You definitely hope you do right as a parent, but you never really know until you see how your child turns out.

Your daughter sounds like an amazing young lady! I hope you find out what is causing her to faint when she is overheated. I actually come close to fainting often if I get too hot or do not have enough water, but never knew why this happened.

    • Dawn McAlexander says

      June 23, 2014 at 3:25 pm

I am similar. I used to faint a lot when I was younger but when I feel that way now, I know to sit down {or lay down, if possible}. I am chronically dehydrated, no matter how much I drink. It’s really annoying.

That is so wonderful that help may be on the way, and so inspiring that she is so strong with this! All three of my children inspire me, every single day πŸ™‚

  14. Pam says

    June 23, 2014 at 7:32 pm

Has your daughter seen a cardiologist? My daughter has been passing out since she was in high school- she’s 21 now- and was FINALLY recently diagnosed with dysautonomia, specifically Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and NeuroCardiogenic Syncope. It causes fainting when dehydrated, overheated, or sometimes just because. Feel free to fb message me if you have any questions!

    • Dawn McAlexander says

      June 23, 2014 at 7:51 pm

Thanks for the advice, Pam. Actually she was originally thought to have had a cardiological problem by someone that saw her in the ER. However, upon further testing with a pediatric doctor, he believes her to be either hypoglycemic {maybe} or have Diabetes Insipidus {probably – it’s NOT at all related to Diabetes that we commonly talk about, but something to do with the kidneys ability to conserve water}. This is a pretty uncommon condition, so there will be more testing this Friday.

I hope that you daughter is doing much better now. πŸ™‚

      • Pam says

        June 23, 2014 at 9:04 pm

Yeah, it took my daughter six-ish? Years to get a diagnosis- turns out what she has isn’t actually a cardiological problem, it’s an autonomic nervous system problem. But it’s much easier for her to tell people it’s a heart problem, haha. Now she takes medicine and drinks over a gallon of water a day and she’s passing out much less. They originally thought it was either diabetes (the normal kind) or hypoglycemia for her, too. Especially since I passed out several times at her age! I hope you guys get it figured out, I know it’s frustrating! πŸ™‚
