Simple Ideas To Cross Off Hunger With Unilever @makelifebetter #BetterTogether #cbias #spon

December 21, 2012 by Dawn McAlexander

Unilever Cross Off Hunger ~

Recently, I told you about Unilever and their partnership with Feeding America to help Cross Off Hunger. I also told you that my family and I would be trying to make our own little changes to help do our part. Well, we tried a few things, learned a few things and we even have some nifty ways for you to keep items out of the landfill.

Sustainable Living With Unilever

Unilever helps people live with more sustainability on a grand scale, but what about on a small level? In a recent post, I promised to try some small things that can cumulatively lead to a better life for my family. Here is what we have done and learned..

My husband and I have started recycling more. We always did a little, but now we have started to do all of our cardboard products that come into our home as well as our newspapers. Many items can be used more than once, so why throw them away when they are still useful? We are seeing how wasteful we were and trying to do even better going forward.

DIY Desk Caddy From Recycled Products

On my shopping trip I bought the large jars of Ragu Sauce. I really never realized how extremely useful these plastic containers can be! Like many families, we have pens, pencils, crayons, etc., scattered all over the place. Traditionally, we had used coffee mugs to keep them in. However, you add a few markers and that cup fills up really fast. But putting them in something too big prevents them from standing up, thus, making them harder to keep organized. Recycling Ragu plastic jars, an old shoebox, and the ring inside toilet tissue is perfect for this project!

I used the tissue paper that came in the shoebox and some tape to join the rolls.
I wrapped the Ragu container halves as well

Of course, you can wrap the box or design this however you want. For me, it was important to use only recycled materials as part of trying to make a sustainable type project. Except tape. I admit I used tape. 🙂 Also, you might want to keep the lid to the Ragu container as well. After I threw it away, I realized that it would be great for paperclips.

Unilever Products Promote Higher Self Esteem

Part of Unilever’s goal to Make Life Better is improving self esteem in young people. That is why we chose to purchase Axe and Dove products. Our daughter and our nephews love smelling good and feeling their best. Unilever wants to help improves lives and part of this is feeling good about yourself.

My family tried small things to help make life better and to live a more sustainable life. If we all participate, it really only takes small steps to make a big difference. We purchase brands that we know work for a great cause. Unilever works closely with Feeding America to help Cross Off Hunger.

Feeding America(R), the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks.  $1=8meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks.  Unilever will donate $250,000.  The monetary equivalent of a minimum of 2 million meals will be donated.

Are you wondering what products that you use daily are Unilever products? Check the list to find out and to discover even more cool products in the Unilever family.

I’ve always appreciated what Unilever does to help offset their impact. It’s amazing how much ‘useful’ trash we throw away each year, thanks for the craft idea!

Interesting desk caddy. Way to make use of found materials. It will help us all to stretch our minds to do that.

I will be using some of those ideas, they will be a fun craft my son and I can do and he can give it to dad as a gift. Thank you. My oldest thinks I am an extreme recycler because I take my bags to the store and insist that if we use the non-reusable ones we recycle them with the egg cartons at the store. I however do not think there is enough we can do!

I need to get better about taking reuseable bags. I forget a lot.

Incredibly creative. You are so right that it is appalling what we throw away, particularly right after Christmas. Would love to hear more about Cross Off Hunger.
