The Housing Crisis – What You Can Do To Save Your Home

July 23, 2012 by Dawn McAlexander

The Housing Crisis ~

Sign Of The Times - Foreclosure
We all know that the housing market is in crisis. My family and I live in a subdivision and though we have no plans of moving anytime soon, there are many in our neighborhood who do. I know there are several houses that have either been foreclosed on, vacated or they have been for sale for so long that I can no longer recall a time when they did not have the realtor ad in their yards.

Though I would say that my town has definitely seen better economical times, there are many places in America that have it far worse. I was reading on Yahoo about the emptiest cities in America. This article states that vacant housing rates have increased by 43.8% nationwide with about “14.3 million year-round vacant housing units in the country.” That is horrible. I hate that so many people are losing their homes or the income they earn from their rental properties due to this housing crisis.

If you are in danger of losing your home, there are precautions that you can take to avoid foreclosure. Definitely DO call your mortgage company and ask them for suggestions of things that you can do to keep you and your family in your home. Definitely DO NOT give your personal information to one of these shady mortgage counselor places that calls you out of the blue. It is sad, but when times get though, the criminals get smart, and taking advantage of this housing crisis is exactly what many people do. Don’t get locked into some deal that may cost you your house AND your life savings.

Also, make sure that you are an informed consumer. Refinancing is oftentimes one of the best options to make sure you stay in your home. You can learn more about refinancing at sites like MortgageRefinanceRates.org. Some sites even have special refinancing offers for seniors. The absolute worst things you can do is to ignore the calls from your mortgage company and to choose not to educate yourself.

If more people would listen to this advice and call their mortgage company, then there would not be such a mortgage crisis. I’m not saying everyone could save their homes, but certainly quite a few could.

It is very scary to think about that. Good ideas, most lenders will work with you.

Hey from Dealy Os! The housing market is one reason I’m glad we have a house provided on base!
