I am 40. By now, I really do have a lot of my stuff together, so to speak. I am relatively mature, totally dependent upon who you ask, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have what I consider to be the best job in the world – one in which I get to travel often and see and do things that I never would have been able to see and do otherwise. I finally finished my college degree a few years ago after working on it for several years. I raised a beautiful, funny and smart daughter and I am happy. Well, I am happy for the most part. But there is this one thing that has always been a monkey on my back. And that one thing is my lifelong inability to reach my goal weight.

I’m 40 – It’s Time To Get My Shizz Together

I generally feel pretty good about myself. I mean, I have my bad days like everyone else but, typically, I am relatively happy with how my life is going. I do feel like I have worked hard to get to where I am and that makes me proud of myself. I have also been losing weight slowly over the past few years. And I have been able to keep it off. I have only been able to do that by making better choices. But let me tell you, it has been a slow process. Slooooooooooooooow. And I have lost nowhere near as much as I would like to lose in total. Since I’d like to reach my goal weight sometime before I am 75, I think now is the perfect time to bring in reinforcements.

For the next 3 months, I will be partnering with Medifast. I will be doing the Medifast Go! program in order to help me reach my weight loss goals. What I am really excited about is how easy Medifast has made it for me. A few days ago, 30 days of meals were delivered right to my door, so I didn’t really have to worry about the decision making process. Because we all know that overeaters make the best decisions [*total sideeye at myself on that one*].

Here I am a few weeks ago with my beautiful friend Sharon Williams.

Starting The Journey To Reaching My Goal Weight

So let’s get real. My goal is to lose 30 pounds in 3 months. I feel like I can do that, especially if you guys are cheering me on *hint, hint*. I am a little nervous [super public accountability, people] but mostly really excited to see how this will go for me. I am also rooting for the other bloggers chosen for this program and look forward to following along with their stories, as well. And, most importantly, I am so grateful for this opportunity.

I am tired of taking photography that only includes my face. I am tired of strategically positioning a camera to get the best picture. I want to feel like I look hot, people! Not for guys. For myself. If some guy doesn’t like the way I look, he can totally kiss it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And, most importantly, I want to be as healthy as I can be and live my best life possible.

So, I’ll be sharing before and after pictures with you a little later when I can get that “wow!” factor. Oooooh, aaaaah! You guys know how I roll. ๐Ÿ˜‰ For now, I am really happy to share my journey with you and let you guys hold me accountable. I hope that I can even inspire some of you to join in this new adventure with me. Life is better shared, right?

What Workouts Do You Suggest?

So, I want to start a workout program to compliment this program. I want something that I can do anywhere and don’t necessarily have to buy special equipment for. I’m cheap, remember? What do you suggest? What are your favorite exercises? I would love to hear about them in the comments below.

  1. I need to lose some weight, too. I gained so much since my mom passed in Feb and I need to get it back off!

  2. I look forward to watching you on your road to success! Half the battle is just getting started. I’ve gained 30 lbs since I started blogging 6 years ago – yikes – and I’m trying to get rid of it! I’ll be watching and cheering you on.

  3. It is great to set your goal and go for it! You can do it! We have your back ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m looking forward to seeing how Medifast works.

    • Dawn McAlexander says:

Thank you so much! And I am looking forward to seeing you all up on my man Mark Ruffalo next week. Post pics! Lots and lots of pics! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. I could definitely do with losing some weight, it is awesome to see others set their goals and get to them, it helps give me ideas on how I may be able to as well.

  5. I can’t wait to see as the story unfolds. I have been frustrated with how my body looks. I know I don’t need to lose a lot but I could definitely be in a lot better shape and even though I’m exercising it does not seem to be happening. I can’t wait to see how stuff works for you so that I can follow it.

    • Dawn McAlexander says:

Thank you so much! Don’t let a plateau get you down. You are beautiful and you got this!

  6. Wonderful you are changing a life style to become healthier and lose weight. Good that you are doing it for yourself and nobody else.

  7. Good luck! I am sure you’ll do great. Basically I just jog daily to keep the weight off. I have a FitBit so I make sure I hit 10,000 steps a day as well.

    • Dawn McAlexander says:

I did start a walking program since I really enjoy our local trails and such. ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. I think this is a great time to start working on you! No matter what our health should always be a priority and choosing a time like a big birthday like this is always a great place to start!

  9. You are even more beautiful than when I last saw you! Weight loss is a big undertaking and I know you have what it takes to do it!

    • Dawn McAlexander says:

Girl! I miss your beautiful face so bad right now. I hope we get to see each other again really soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Pam Wattenbarger says:

Congratulations on partnering with Medifast. I hope that you meet all of your weight loss goals easily!

  11. I love the free workouts on my roku tv. You can search the apps. Good for you for getting healthier.

    • Dawn McAlexander says:

Thanks for the suggestion! I have Roku so I will definitely look into that. Any that you recommend in particular?

  12. Good luck on your journey. As I’ve gotten older, it’s getting harder to keep off the weight!

  13. Wishing you all the best on your health journey. I always use birthdays as a chance to set a personal goal and I hope that you are successful with yours!

    • Dawn McAlexander says:

Me too. I will be 41 in a couple of months and I definitely have a goal weight in mind that I hope to achieve by then.

  14. Congrats on the weight loss you’ve already achieved. There’s no sure fire fix for being overweight, it sounds like you’ve found a tool you will find helpful in working towards your goals.

  15. First of all, you don’t look a day over 30! And I agree as I am also on a journey to a healthier me. I wish you luck. I know you got this, I believe in you ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. It’s nice that you’ve achieve much at 40. I’m 39 and working on a few milestones on my own. Good luck on the weight goal.

  17. I’m 60 and there are days I still don’t have it together. My husband teases me when I’m behind on a project “well, I guess you need to get your act together”.

    • Dawn McAlexander says:

Ha! I wonder if there is a magic age where the average person does actually have it together?

  18. It is all in the mind. Once you have made up your mind and go ahead with determination, then the sky is the limit. All the best for your programme.
