My husband loves to BBQ. There is just something that he loves about standing in the heat of the sun, with more heat in front of him. That is totally not for me – but I love the yumminess he cooks up. And those grill racks, man can they get disgusting. All that grilled on mess that takes tons of scrubbing to remove can get ridiculous. But we have learned a secret! Check out what we learned about how to clean bbq grill racks with just a few things you probably already have at home.
How To Clean BBQ Grill Racks With WAY Less Scrubbing
You will need…
Palmolive Dish Soap
Large trash bag that is resealable {the draw string type work for this}
Nasty grill racks
Now, for the fun part. Go look at your hubby’s grill. Chances are his looks like my husband’s – the grossness. Look tasty? No way. So, let’s fix it.
1. Pop those grill racks out and put them in a large resealable trash bag. You can add more than one, if you like. We have 3 grill racks and we used 2 trash bags total.
2. Add 1/2 cup of Palmolive to 1 gallon of water. I believe you can use whatever type of Palmolive that you like. We chose to use the kind with the Oxy Bubbles. I mean, hey, they’re Oxy Bubble! That means extra clean, right? And who doesn’t like extra clean when it has to do with something touching your food?
3. Let those babies soak in the suds overnight. We did a full 24 hours. You saw those nasty racks, right? Don’t know where to put them for 24 hours? We put them in our bathtub.
24 hours later…
Now take those grill racks out of their bags and scrub them down for a few minutes and then admire your handiwork.

Seriously? Now.. I am officially impressed! I NEVER would have guess that you could use dishsoap to clean a grill. That looks amazing!
Jennifer says
I’m not surprised that Palmolive cleaned that grill so easily. Palmolive is some hard core dishwashing liquid. The best part is it doesn’t make my hands as dry as a desert.
Dawn McAlexander says
I feel you on that. The Soft Touch one is my favorite. 🙂
Mistee Dawn says
What a neat idea. Never thought of this. Our grill racks are so disgusting.
Elizabeth @ Being MVP says
OH what a fantastic idea. I think Hubs just uses a scrubbing brush without anything? I have no clue since I don’t do the grilling.
Jenna wood says
We use Palmolive for everything, even pre-treating clothing stains on whites! This looks like another great idea!
Stacie says
This is such a great idea. I had no idea it would be so easy with Palmolive.

Me too! Anytime I can soak something instead of scrubbing, I am all about it. Sit down. Watch some TV. Let Palmolive do the work. 🙂
Pam says
Wow! That is a huge difference! Our grill is messy. Looks like I need to pick up some palmolive!

i wish we had time to do a bbq but we have had a lot of success washing the wheels of our ice cream truck with palmolive. what started as a hobby is now a labor of love for our community. going to be really glad when it cools down in november and we can take some time to bbq.
