Bathroom Remodeling Ideas: 5 Exciting Trends In Bathroom Design #sponsored

April 19, 2013 by Dawn McAlexander

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas ~

Master Bathroom

Today’s hectic pace of life ensures people have less at-home time than before to relax, refresh and recharge before turning around to do it all over again the next day. For this reason, people are increasingly choosing to turn their own home space into a place to “get away from it all” for a while. In particular, the bathroom space has been getting more attention for its ability to transform a house into a luxurious, relaxing home. Here, learn some exciting new trends in bathroom remodeling and discover some great ideas to transform your bathroom.

5 Exciting Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Heated Floors

Having heated seats in your vehicle is nothing new. But, heated bathroom floors are still an amenity reserved for pricy spas and resorts — until now. Today’s homeowner is more apt to install some level of radiant flooring, especially in areas of the country where temperatures drop sharply in the winter months in morning and evening time. Nothing is more soothing and luxurious than entering a bathroom space that has been pre-warmed to welcome you. In the same way, heated shaving and shower mirrors ensure you will never have to wipe away mist or steam before using them.

Skylights and Natural Lighting

Natural lighting is becoming one of the most popular bathroom remodeling trends. Especially in the shorter winter months when it is not uncommon for some folks to suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or an absence of exposure to natural light, having built-in skylights and other natural lighting sources can partially remedy this without you having to change your daily routine.

Low-Maintenance Bathrooms

It’s no secret mold and mildew can grow easily in the humid bathroom setting. This is why more bathroom remodels are featuring mold and mildew-resistant amenities and fixtures. Some newer types of grout, for instance, are naturally resistant to mold and mildew. As well, some types of tile, including ceramic tiles, are resistant to the growth of fungus, dust mites and other potentially toxic agents. Choosing low-maintenance fixtures and amenities serves two purposes — it cuts down on the time you spend cleaning your bathroom and increases the time you have left to enjoy it.

Soaking Tubs and Steam Baths

In the remodeling world, yesterday’s Jacuzzis have become today’s saunas and soaking tubs. These new quieter and ultra-relaxing options transform your bathroom into a private spa and retreat space. Whether you focus on luxuriating in a custom shower with multiple showerheads, massage and steam options or you prefer a long, hot session in a soaking tub, you won’t be alone in updating and renovating your tub or bath to include these luxuries.

Your Bathroom, the Entertainment Center

From building large walk-in dressing rooms next to the bathroom to adding televisions in bathroom spaces, today’s bathroom remodels treat the bathroom as a multi-purpose relaxation and entertainment space versus the functional bathroom of days past. Perhaps you enjoy watching a film while soaking in the tub or catching up with the news while brushing your teeth each day. Or maybe you like to read the paper on the sofa in your walk-in closet before dressing for work. Whatever your pleasure, today’s bathroom can likely accommodate it in the context of your available bathroom space.

Stage-of-Life Upgrades

One of the most functional new bathroom remodel trends is to add stage-of-life upgrades like grab bars, railing, handles, lighting and emergency call buttons — particularly in the shower and near the commode. Reflecting an increasing lifespan and the desire of many adults to remain in their homes for as long as possible before entering assisted living, these upgrades pave the way for a smooth transition into the later years of your life.

Each of these trends can add enjoyment and years of usefulness to your bathroom space. You may have additional ideas for how to create a bathroom you can look forward to waking up and coming home to.

I agree with the heated floors – how nice it must be on a cold winter morning not to freeze your feet! However the bathroom is not my entertainment center. We do what we have to do and leave. I do want it to be clean, fresh and inviting but not for a long visit. HA-HA

Oh I LOVE all of these fabulous ideas! Especially the Soaking Tub! I had one growing-up, a beautiful cast iron claw foot tub. Boy I wish I had one now…showers are great, but there’s nothing like a relaxing soak in the tub!

I can’t wait til we buy instead of rent! Remodeling a home is a dream for me. Heated floors are a great idea but a heated toilet seat would be just as great. I hate getting that shock of cold on my legs when I use the restroom in the middle of the night! I also love natural light in a bathroom.

Skylights are very energy efficient. It illuminates the bathroom with natural light and it gives the illusion of a bigger space.

Good ideas and thoughts. I had never thought about the bathroom being an entertainment room. On the other hand, I would love heated floors and low maintenance. Bathroom floors are always freezing, and heated floors would be a nice pampering treat.
