Soundtrack To My Life #moreclassywriting

March 4, 2013 by Dawn McAlexander

Soundtrack To My Life ~

soundtrack to my life

You know when you hear a song that just hits home. It is just exactly what you feel and how you think. And it describes a time in your life perfectly. I have had several songs like that in my life – that just take me right back in time.

Soundtrack To My Life

The Right Stuff by New Kids On The Block – Yeah, yeah, I know. Anyway, when I was a preteen, the sun rose and set with the New Kids On The Block. Looking back now, though, I can’t see how adult males {weren’t some of them adults} can sing the songs they did and keep their dignity. “Hangin’ Tough,” anyone? “We’re rough, rough.” HUGE eye roll and judgment face.

Out Of The Blue by Debbie Gibson – When I was a preteen, the sun also rose and set with Debbie Gibson. Unlike NKOTB, I have not grown an aversion to her over the years, though I haven’t listened to her in I don’t know how long. I did see her on a rerun of Beverly Hills 90210 the other day, though, and I was pretty excited about it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m Gonna Be Somebody by Travis Tritt – When I was in my teens, I always wondered and dreamed about what I would be when I grew up. This song was so inspiring to me.

Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd – The next song on the soundtrack to my life would be Sweet Home Alabama or something else by Lynyrd Skynyrd. They always takes me back to high school.

I Like It, I Love It by Tim McGraw – The summer after I graduated from high school was awesome. I met some new friends and this one guy that I became really good friends used to always have this song playing in his car. That was definitely the summer of fun.

Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard – I went to my first concert when I was 21. I saw Def Leppard and Joan Jett! Nice choice for a first concert, huh? I had been a humongous fan of Def Leppard since I was like 12 or 13, so it was about time I saw them in concert. Wouldn’t you agree?

Without Me by Eminem – I used to go to clubs occasionally in my 20s with one of my friends. We always LOVED when this song played! I am not a huge Eminem fan but this one is hilarious!

Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac – Most of the time I do what I want to do and try not to follow the crowd. People should make their own paths and go their own way. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hicktown by Jason Aldean – Let’s face it, I live in the boonies. So, I may as well include a song about it. And this is a cool one. ๐Ÿ™‚

The soundtrack to my life would totally be on a cassette or a record. Why? Cause I am cool like that. ๐Ÿ˜›

You just read the soundtrack to my life…

My most favorite part of this entire post is the fact that you chose a cassette tape as the photo instead of a CD. I LOVE IT. Those songs bring back memories.

I definitely do! A whole box of them! And I have even more records. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have found that records last far longer over the years, at least for me. ๐Ÿ™‚

These were some of my favorites as a child too. Who didn’t love some NKOTB <3

I love most of these! I remember recording things on cassette tapes….oh yeah. I was the cool one who recorded the radio on a whole side of a tape just to get “that” song and then copying it onto another one. So dorky, but I loved my music and was a cheapskate! ha! Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

I totally used to sit there and listen to the radio all day long just waiting to catch the right songs for the perfect mixed tape. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ha! Me too, Dawn! And then I would get so mad when I missed the beginning of the song ๐Ÿ™

Me too!! And I would try to cram as many songs on one tape as I could, so sometimes I would miss the end and get mad, too!

Hicktown is definitely a good anthem for my hometown! We have Wagon Train, a week long event where everyone congregates with their horses at the Saddle Club. Then, on Friday, the main street is blocked for a parade of said horses! Reminds me of Hicktown every year!

That sounds like fun! We have a few fiddler’s conventions here, rodeos and tractor pulls and such. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hicktown is my current theme song for my live. My boys love to sing it and I can relate to all of it. Hicktown pretty much is my life story from day one actually if I think about it. Thank you for sharing and bringing back lots of memories of songs I used to love.

My poor dad sat through the NKOTB (with Tiffany) concert with me and one of my friends. We had front row seats. Poor guy. I should call him to say thank you!
