Rubber Ducky Day

Rubber Ducky Day ~

All of us know about at least one crazy holiday, but I am willing to bet money that you might not have heard of National Rubber Ducky Day. This quack-y holiday takes place every year on January 13th. Perhaps you have owned a cute little rubber ducky on at least one point in your life. Also, you more than likely played with it in the bath tub! Β Those were the days. Not a care in the world but seemingly endless fun. πŸ˜€

Celebrate Rubber Ducky Day

In searching for material for this holiday, I ran across these cute little ducks! Did you know that rubber duckies have their own website! The great thing about these little fellows is that they are inexpensive and do practically nothing! Yet, toddlers find themselves playing with them for hours. Have trouble getting your little one to take a bath? Perhaps a rubber ducky will help! Your child might even become resistant to leaving the tub {as I did when I played with my grandmothers collection of rubber duckies, haha!}! Once, it was time for my little cousin to take a bath (he HATES baths) so I brought him a rubber ducky and let the magic take place. Before I knew it, he was begging to stay in longer! It was great and practically a miracle worker. πŸ˜€

Bert and Ernie Celebrate Rubber Ducky Day

“Rubber Ducky, you’re the one…” Sing it Bert and Ernie. I am sure that many of you remember this little diddy from Sesame Street. πŸ™‚

Moby-Duck: A Tale of 28,800 Rubber Duckies Lost At Sea

Moby-Duck: The True Story of 28,800 Bath Toys Lost at Sea and of the Beachcombers, Oceanographers, Environmentalists and Fools, Including the Author, Who Went in Search of Them.

In 1992, over 28,000 rubber duckies fell off a cargo ship in the Northern Pacific. Thousands of the rubber duckies were floating around the ocean and being carried away in the waves. To this day, people still report sightings of the rubber duckies being washed up on beaches and floating on the ocean eaves all over the world.

How Will You Celebrate National Rubber Ducky Day?

While you might think that the 13th is just another regular day, here is another reason to celebrate. Why not take the time to appreciate the rubber ducky that has become such a popular piece of American culture.

Need more reasons to celebrate? Be sure to read aboutΒ more holidays in January.

I LOVE this super fun post! I really wish I could have seen all those rubber ducks in the ocean πŸ™‚ And I love that song from Ernie – that is a fun memory for me. My son had a rubber duck collection for a little while…a cowboy, devil and soldier duck were my favorites. (I wonder where his ducks are??)

I never realized there was a Rubber Ducky Holiday, but well deserving….how ironic that the duckies fell into the ocean! Now that must have been a site….haaha πŸ™‚

I don’t think there is a single rubber ducky in my house! πŸ™ Sad! We used to, but I think after being in the tub for so long they get mildewy and moldy so they get trashed. They just have never been replaced. So instead of playing with a rubber duck, I’m just going to join Ernie in singing “Rubber ducky you’re the one! You make bath time so much fun!”
