The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner ~
I started The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner when it was free online but just didn’t get it finished in time. So, I decided to start it all over last week (after I found it in my favorite used bookstore). I think it is very good and I believe that Stephenie Meyer was correct in her assessment that Bree deserved her own story. I think there are other characters in the Twilight series that could carry an entire story themselves, as well and I feel that I would love reading their short novellas, as well.
I’ll admit this The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner does have it’s slow parts. But it starts out well and ends well, so that makes it easier for me to reconcile the moments of ‘nothing’ in between. This would be a good book, in my opinion, for those that have thought about reading the Twilight Series but are daunted by the size of the books (or the fact that you should read all four, some people simply don’t like to commit). This book is only 170ish pages, making it a great introduction, without really ruining or taking anything away from the bigger series. This book also isn’t the best of the series, so I don’t think you will get a huge letdown if you do decide to read the series.
I have to admit I was not the least bit interested in this series a few years ago when it first became popular. I had met a few Twilight fans that I felt might not have a strong grasp on sanity and I had no desire to be “one of them.” But, my daughter found this set and absolutely loved them. I think she has read the entire set like 5 or 6 times (although she hasn’t read “Bree” yet, so I am one up there, haha) so I decided to read them to see what all the fuss was about. They are really good, especially “Breaking Dawn” and I am glad that she suggested them. Sometimes it is good to read outside your comfort zone. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is worth your time.
