Are you planning to cruise soon? We recently cruised with Fathom Travel on an Impact Travel Cruise. We have cruised before but have always stayed in interior cabins. This time we stayed in an oceanview room and we wanted to share that experience with you. Take a look around our Fathom Adonia Oceanview Stateroom so that you can see if this might be a room you would like on a cruise ship.

As I said before, we have always stayed in interior cabins when traveling via cruise in the past. There are advantages to that type of room. The main one is that it’s cheaper. Also, if you are a person that is scared of seeing the water then it might help you to have a break from it while in your cabin. I am not scared and love looking at the water while trying to go to sleep. I found it so relaxing seeing the moonlight on the waves. So, this trip taught me that I prefer staying in an oceanview stateroom.

Location…
We stayed in room D026. We were on the 4th floor of the ship. I loved the location of the room. When we walked out of our room and to the right, we came out at the Reception desk and the desk to make Excursion and Impact Travel reservations. There was also a bank of elevators. I found that really convenient. When we went to the left, we also had another bank of elevators close by. We were close enough to the people gathering areas for convenience though we were not bothered by noise or things keeping us up at night.

Upgrade If You Can…
I obviously loved the view. Having an oceanview stateroom was amazing. I often have trouble sleeping at night – not due to noise or distractions. I just suffer from insomnia at times. I slept in the bed closest to the window and sometimes I would just sit up and stare out at the waves. It was so beautiful and I found it really relaxing. Not into looking at the waves at night? Close the curtains and then open them back in the morning. If you can budget for the upgrade to an oceanview stateroom, I highly recommend it.

The Coffee & Tea Setup…
I also really enjoyed the tea setup in the room. It was full of several flavors of tea and coffee. Our room also had a really cool coffee pot similar to the percolators that we used to use all the time here in the United States {this is a British ship}. We would put water in the top of the pot, plug it in and then it would heat the water to boiling. Then you could just add your instant coffee or tea bag, milk and sugar, and voila! Our steward would refill this, but we also got teabags from the buffet to refill it or went to reception if we wanted special flavors {I love Mint}. I don’t think any other stateroom I have stayed in had this feature and I found it to be a great surprise.

The Bedding Arrangement…
There were two beds and the couch was a foldout. So, you can pretty comfortably fit 3 people in this stateroom. One thing you should consider: I slept on the bed closest to the window, then Amber slept in the middle and Mackenzie slept on the couch. If you have to get up in the night to go to the restroom {like I do} you might want to consider taking the couch. There is no room to walk between the bed when folded out as it is just about flush against the cabinetry on the other side of the cabin. So, Mackenzie would have to get up when I needed to “go” and I would roll over his bed like a Weeble Wobble, lol. We are all comfortable with each other, so we found it humorous but it’s just something I wanted to throw out there if you might not feel the same that we do. Otherwise, we loved the room and the beds were quite comfy in our experience {especially the pillows} and otherwise the room was set up really well.

The Bathroom…
The bathroom was pretty typical of what you get on any cruise ship. I do feel like this bathroom had more shelving than what I have noticed on other ships, though. Amber and Mackenzie are teens and have a lot of beauty type products. I am pretty simple and don’t have much. We all had room to store what we needed to in the bathroom without fighting over space.

The TV…
The TV also had a ton of channels to skim through and I always like watching the channels that tell all about the boat and our current location. I also caught a new Kate Winslet movie while on the cruise. She was a landscape architect but I missed the first few minutes. When I got home, I learned it was called, “A Little Chaos.” It was really good. You should definitely watch it if you get the chance.

The Storage…
There was plenty of storage. I generally bring a suitcase and then a small duffel bag or tote with other stuff in it. I think next time I travel, I will bring a suitcase and then another suitcase crammed inside with my clothes in it. That way I would have a whole suitcase for souvenirs! If you bring a lot of luggage, there are tons of places to store them in your room. I let the kids use the cabinetry and Amber could actually fit her luggage in there, along with all her clothing on hangers. Mackenzie did the same. They also had several drawers each as well as a hook next to the bathroom to hang things on.

I just left my stuff in the suitcase. I didn’t have to do that, I just always do as I am terrified of leaving something behind. For the things that I kept out of my suitcase, I had a hook on the wall above my suitcase, a nightstand by my bed and the area below the window is like a window seat. It was perfect for keeping our paintings safe that we did while on the ship.

Also in the cabinetry was a mini fridge. We kept our chocolate in there until we left the ship. This is also where the life jackets were stored {above the kids’ closets}. And continuing on was a desk where Amber was able to do her makeup every morning. I also did a little blog work there. I like how it all looked like one really nice piece of furniture and wasn’t broken up about the room. I think it helped make the room appear longer and larger overall.

And A Fun Little Bonus…
Here is another feature that I have not seen on any other ship that I have been on. We had this cool little sign next to our door that we could write on every day. We didn’t change it up, because we liked our Ferris Bueller’s Day Off inspiration {we all love this movie}, but a lot of people did. It was fun to walk by cabins and see what people had written each day. Bueller, Bueller…
