One of the most aggravating things about weekly grocery shopping is knowing whether or not you got the best deal on your groceries. I know that for the average family it is tough to bring home enough food to feed everyone in the house yet still have enough money left over to pay the bills. It gets increasingly tougher each week. But, I have found a solution to those shopping woes. It’s called the Flipp App. The Flipp App is a new way to get all your weekly circular deals for the grocery stores in your area all in one location. No more searching through the Sunday paper trying to find coupons and circulars to clip from. Now it is all on your smart phone so you even don’t have to make a trip to get the paper and you don’t have to buy it either. Savings, already.
How To Save Money On Groceries Without Lifting A Pair Of Scissors
So, how exactly does the Flipp App work, you ask? It’s pretty simple, really. You just download the app from the Play Store for Android phones or the App Store for iPhones, then allow it to access your location. The Flipp App will then automatically search your location for all stores in the area and then download their circulars straight to your phone. You can then search through them and find the best deals for groceries in your area. It will even allow you to clip the best deals and save them to your clippings section on the app. That way you can plan the food you want to buy, save it all in one location, and then head out to the store, find the deals and buy them. It is so much easier than tying up an entire day trying to search through newspapers to find deals, and then planning your trip. The Flipp App saves you hours of work.
One of the newest features of the Flipp App is that it now allows you scan you rewards cards to the app so that you can save even more. This will allow you to get deals exclusively for rewards card holders at select stores.
So, what I did to try out this app was to make a list of the groceries we needed. Then I looked up the items on the Flipp App for the best deals around, clipped them to my clippings menu on the App, and then I went shopping. After completing my list, I went to three different grocery stores, all within 5 miles driving distance of our house: Save-A-Lot, Food Lion and Lowe’s Foods. Allow me to share a few of my deals with you so you can see for yourself.
Ok, so how do you know if you are getting a great deal or not? Well, that’s easy. If you find something that looks like it might be a good deal, then just pull up the Flipp App and search for the product. If there is a better deal somewhere else in town, you will know it instantly. For example, I was at Food Lion and I found Nature’s Own butter bread for $2.99 a loaf. I was wondering if that was a good deal, so I pulled up the Flipp App and looked. I found the same bread for $2.19 a loaf at Lowe’s Foods. I would save .80 cents just by driving a couple of minutes down the street. So I did.
Another deal that I was able to comparison shop on Flipp App was for tuna. Dawn loves tuna and it can vary greatly in price. According to the circular on Flipp App, Lowe’s had it 2/$3. Dawn doesn’t care about brand name with tuna, and Sav-A-Lot had it 69 cents a can. That is a huge difference. So, I bought the tuna at Sav-A-Lot.
Dawn loves yogurt. For that matter, so do I. One of the first deals that I found when I opened up the Flipp App was yogurt on sale 10 for $5.00. That’s .50 cents a piece on yogurt that is normally .77 cents a piece. That is a savings of $2.70 on just the first try.
We also like to eat eggs that are from cage-free chickens, so I tried to find a good deal on those. Lo and behold, they were 2 for $5.00 at Lowe’s. They are normally $3.49 a dozen, so that is a savings of $1.98. Cha-ching!
I also found this next deal while looking at another deal on the Flipp App. While I was looking up hot dog and hamburger buns for $1.99, I found name brand boxed meal helpers 10 for $10. These are normally $1.89 per box, so I saved a grand total of $8.90 on just that deal alone!
So, How Much Did We Save?
In 2 trips to both Food Lion and Lowe’s and 1 trip to Save-A-Lot, we ended up spending $91.11 and we saved at least $23.74. I say “at least” because Save-A-Lot’s receipt does not break down savings, it just shows the total – and that is where we got one of the best deals – the tuna – of which I bought 10 cans. If my calculations are correct, that is a savings of at least 26% – essentially a free week of groceries every month!

Wow! What a great way to comparison shop. I live in a bigger city with different grocery stores so this app would be perfect for me.
We use to clip coupons to save money. It was so much work and I am not even sure it was worth it in the end. I much rather shop smarter these days!
I think of all that time I spent clipping coupons and cringe, lol.
I love finding new and improved ways to save money on food. The Flipp app sounds really convenient. The best part is not having to clip any coupons--time saver!
Seriously, brilliant! I never have the time to cut coupons, I could totally get used to using this!
This is such a cool app. I mean, we have a lot of shopping apps to choose from but none would tell you where the nearest store is, really. I think the concept is awesome!
Boy is this a way to shop smarter, not harder! I love to save on my grocery bill whenever and wherever I can.
I love being able to save money. I'll be checking out this app. Any way to save money is always great to me!
This past week I couldn't believe how high my grocery bill ended up being. This is great, thanks for sharing.
Oooohh! I need to look into this. I got tired of all the cutting and sorting and searching that I gave it up, but this is right up my alley!
I used to do that. Couponing makes for good savings, but after all the time I spent on it, I started to wonder if it was really worth it. This is so much easier and takes way less time.
The healthier you eat, the more expensive the bill. Finding good deals is essential to make sure you don't break the bank. This app looks like it can really help in that area.
