MonicaMcGurk’s “Dark Before Dawn”

In the third chapter of the Archangel Prophecies, Dark Before Dawn, we catch back up with Hope after her last encounter with Lucas. Life seems to be going well for Hope and her family. Her mother, Mona, prides herself in raising Hope’s little sister, Rorie, as best as she can. Hope has become a lawyer, and has her own apartment. She and her high school friend, Tabby, have prided themselves in become strong women. All the while though, Hope can’t seem to forget about Michael. Ten years later, Michael reappears without any notice of how long it has taken him to come back to Hope. Now he can only stay for a little at a time (due to his heavenly responsibility), but he plans to date Hope and re-win her over.

Dark Before Dawn takes us through Hope’s next adventure. She is still mourning the loss of her father, and is afraid the rise of Lucas could mean the loss of more people she loves. She knows Lucas will rise – but how soon? Now, it appears Lucas has returned, and Michael is nowhere to be found. Hope is forced to go through extreme tragedy again, and to see someone she loves dearly kidnapped all without Michael. She doesn’t understand where he is, and why he hasn’t sensed that something is wrong. When he finally does return, Hope is furious with him for breaking his promise to protect her family. Now, she must fight to take care of her family once again and keep that safe from the Fallen.

Overall, this book is probably my favorite in the series. I never found myself getting bored with the story line, or hitting any “slow” parts. I think this was the perfect conclusion to the series, but I am sad to see it ending. Monica McGurk has created three fantastic books based on Hope and Michael, while also highlighting the harsh reality of child sexual trafficking. You see how brutal it is, and how sadly harsh of a reality this problem has become.
