Upon hearing that I was selected to review Dark Hope by Monica McGurk, I have to admit, I was pretty excited. Based upon the description, I instantly found Dark Hope interesting and was especially intrigued by the fantasy book genre. I have read books in this genre before and have found them hard to put down and Dark Hope was no disappointment.

Overview Of Dark Hope By Monica McGurk

Dark Hope is the story of a young girl, Hope, who was kidnapped. Shortly after being kidnapped, she was found unharmed, with only a certain mark on the back of her neck. Although the sudden finding of the young girl unharmed was unsual, people soon forgot the story and moved but the mark remained.

Years and years later, Hope moved out of her overly religious and protective father’s home and into her laid back mother’s house. She began a new school where she met another new student named Michael. Before she knows it, she found Michael and herself spending a lot of time together, and growing close until she found out who Michael truly was, and why he was at her school. Soon enough, they embark on a journey together to save not only herself, but perhaps even the world.

My Thoughts On Dark Hope

I really liked Dark Hope. No, I loved it! After I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. Although the story line was fantasy like many other books I have read, Dark Hope was also very unique and unlike any other. I would most certainly recommend it to anyone who loves books in the fantasy genre.

The one thing I would like to point out is that some readers might like to be advised that the main theme of the book plays off a lot of stories in the Bible. For me that wasn’t an issue, but for some it might be. Other than that, I think this book is suitable to most audiences who like fantasy or young adult lit.

I have to say that I really loved Michael’s character most. He is this really good guy who really cares for Hope, but is forced to do things out of character in order to protect her. Although it is hard to tell you a lot about the book about giving it away, I will say that if you are an emotional person like me, you will be on a roller coaster. At times I found myself happy and excited. At other times I felt myself becoming mad and angry with these characters of whom aren’t even real! It’s great when a book can get you so enmeshed in the story.

Overall, I really loved the book, even though the ending was abrupt. I didn’t expect the actual big event to not take place in the first book. I have read many series and none of them have been like this one in particular. I guess it was a smart move on the McGurk’s part, because now I can’t wait to read the second book!
