4. Have A Friend Make Your Cake – Why do you have to have an extravagant cake? Have a friend who loves baking? Ask them to make you a cake as a wedding gift.
5. Only Invite Those Closest To You – Not everyone can throw an extravagant affair and most people understand this. Just invite a small group of people who are closest to you.
6. Make Your Own Decorations – If you are a crafty person or have crafty friends, then you could probably save a ton if you made your own flower arrangements and other decorations.
7. Do Your Own Hair And Makeup – Why pay for this if you are great at doing your own hair and makeup or have a friend who is. If not, go to a local Cosmetology school. You can often times get your hair and makeup done there for far less than the price of the salon.

My husband and I went to the courthouse to get married. Why? Well, a major reason as far as I was concerned was the cost of a wedding. I just cant see paying thousands of dollars for a dress I would only wear once. My sister got married last year and spent over $1000 on her dress - and then just threw it away because she couldn't be bothered to sell it or box it up. What a waste of money!

I don't plan on getting married again BUT I wish this had been an option for me when I did get married. I refused to spend a lot of money on a wedding, so we just got married by a justice of the peace. I wish I'd had some kind of wedding, but the money was such a factor!

I feel the same way about a dress - mine only cost $75 and then I donated it to the local summer stock theatre. I saw it on stage one time when I went to a show. That was wild. My cake was a gift just as you suggest. It was delicious!
