Exercising at home alone can be tough – especially when you are used to going to the gym. It can be hard to stay motivated when accountability, in the form of another person, isn’t staring you right in the face. It’s easy to sit on the couch and continue binge-watching your favorite program instead of exercising when you know someone isn’t seeing you do this. So, that is why I think it’s a great idea to build an exercise accountability group.
Create An Exercise Accountability Group To Help Keep You Motivated
I formed an exercise accountability group on Facebook with a few of my family members and friends who I know are also on health journeys. Like me, they are finding that social distancing isn’t making their exercise routine any easier to keep up with. Since we can’t really work out together or meet for a formal in person support group right now, I created a Facebook group where we can each post daily about our fitness goals, exercise routines or whatever we do to inspire ourselves and, hopefully, each other.
For the first month or so of social distancing, I really didn’t exercise. I looked at it kind of like a vacation and felt like things would most likely return to normal fairly quickly. After that initial month, I realized that the gyms might not be opening back for a while and that I needed to make some contingency plans. So I started buying some gym equipment to facilitate my working out at home. I am finding that between the exercise accountability group and the ease of access that I now have to gym equipment, I am exercising much more.
I have also earned a couple more race medals in the past couple of weeks. You guys know that I am all about rewards. I love having a visual representation of all of my hard work. Even better – the more medals I earn, the more I want to earn. For those of you who feel unable to get your race medal fix at this moment, try a virtual race. You can complete a virtual race on your own time, at your own pace. That’s perfect for both novice racers/walkers like myself and weekend warriors who love to participate in, and win, races weekly.
