Have you ever had the urge to go camping? Here recently, Dawn and I have had that urge. There was just a couple of problems with this. Number one, our tent was small, too small for the two of us, we felt. Number two, neither of us is a big fan of sleeping outdoors on the ground. I know what you are thinking, why would anyone that does not like sleeping outside want to go camping? Well, I guess you could say we wanted our cake and eat it too, as the old saying goes. What we wanted was a tent that we could use during the day but then sleep in our car at night. That’s when we found out about Napier and their line of vehicle tents. These are tents that actually attach to your truck or SUV allowing you to sleep in your vehicle instead of on the ground. What?!

Check Out The Sportz SUV Tent Model 84000

The tent that we got to review is the Sportz SUV Tent Model 84000 with screen room. This is a very roomy tent, 10′ x 10′ with an additional 7′ x 6′ screen room, and plenty of head room, at 7.25′ tall. This was the size tent that we were looking for. The best thing about the Napier Sportz SUV Tent Model 84000 is that it attaches straight to our SUV, a GMC Acadia. This allows us to use the tent, yet still sleep comfortably in the back of our SUV, without having to sleep on the ground and still being protected from the elements.

The Napier Sportz SUV Tent Model 84000 also comes with a rainfly cover with attached awning that makes the tent seem even bigger, giving it a spacious outdoor covered seating area to enjoy nature without having to worry about the sun baking down on us. It also has several pockets for storage of things like cell phones or tablets, along with an overhead gear storage net that allows for even more storage. The folks at Napier seem to have thought of everything with this tent.

We have been waiting for the weather to cooperate with us in order to review our vehicle tent properly. Unfortunately, we have had a bit of a tough time with that. It has either been too windy, too rainy, too wet or too cold to set it up. The other day, though, when we went over to my mother’s house, with the tent in tow in the handy storage bag that it came in, we hit upon a perfect day to set the tent up.

So, I sat about setting the tent up. It attaches easily to the car and is pretty flush so that bugs, etc., won’t easily get in. The tent is very tall, though, so we recomment using 2 people to set it up. Getting everything connected and set up takes a person on each side of the tent to help get the tent upright and standing. Also, the rainfly has to go over the top of the tent after it is standing and this is a tent that in excess of 7 feet tall! Tons of room! So, that definitely is a two-person job. I enlisted the help of my uncle and cousin, and we had the tent up and connected to the SUV in about 30 minutes. We were well pleased with the amount of room that it had.

We chose this particular vehicle tent because of all the room and the fact that it will fit every single vehicle that we would want to use it with. In these pictures, we have it attached to a 2012 GMC Acadia. The other vehicles that we might use the Napier Sportz SUV Tent Model 84000 with are a 2007 Chevy HHR, a 2002 Jeep Liberty and a 2010 Jeep Patriot. There are many, many more cars that this tent will fit, though.

The screens zip closed to block the wind, or they can be unzipped and rolled up to enjoy the great outdoors. Or they have screens that can you can keep closed to still see outside but protect yourself from bugs. The tent is made of a durable polyester taffeta material that is designed to last as well as protect from the elements. This tent is obviously built for years of enjoyment and with the camper’s comfort in mind.

Overall, I was well pleased with the quality and the durability of the tent. We love that you can have sleeping areas in both the tent and the vehicle and still have a room to set up a card table or to use for storage. We also really love the pockets for storage. However, I do recommend that you at least have two people to set the tent up or if you only have one, it might be easier to just skip the rainfly which isn’t necessary anyway {unless it rains} and allows for more light to come in the tent.

Also, attaching the tent to your car is optional, and the vehicle sleeve can be detached for setup without a vehicle and the tent will be closed just like a normal tent. This tent is quite versatile! The Napier Sportz SUV Tent Model 84000 sleeps up to 6 adults, so there is plenty of room. I think that if you are looking for a great camping experience, the Napier Sportz SUV Tent Model 84000 can certainly deliver.
