On our recent trip to Hartsville, South Carolina, we stopped in at this quaint little coffee shop that was near our hotel, to eat breakfast as was recommended by several people we met in town. Now, we got there late because we were lazy and slept in as many vacationers do, so we didn’t get breakfast, but I just needed to throw that out there just in case you were looking at the food and saying that it doesn’t look like “breakfast” food. And I must say, we were not the least but disappointed in what actually turned out to be lunch. This quaint little coffee shop and eatery was called The Midnight Rooster.
Lunch At The Midnight Rooster
The Midnight Rooster is a locally owned shop with a variety of coffee beverages as well as other drinks and, of course, food. I have to say that I love the feel of these small town coffee shops. Unlike what can happen in some of the big, national chains, at The Midnight Rooster all of the people were friendly and we were greeted with a warm smile upon entrance.
We were seated at a nice table on the outside part of the cafe near the street. This was my first experience with such a thing, so I was a little excited with sitting near the street to have my food. I have seen restaurants like this one in commercials or TV shows at these outdoor cafes and I have always wanted to do it myself, and here was my chance.
Anyway, we ordered our drinks first. Dawn ordered a Cinnamon Iced Coffee, and she said that it was really good. As a matter of fact, she tried to find a similar one at a local coffee shop in our town and couldn’t. I ordered a Milk Chocolate Frappe. It seems that each place makes these a little different, or at least they taste different to me, and The Midnight Rooster’s ranks in my top three as far as flavor goes. It was really good.
Dawn ordered the Greek Goddess Salad and Tomato Bisque Soup. Soup and salad is a typical lunch for her if it is available. That’s good because she can compare the food wherever she goes. She kept talking about how good the soup was in particular. She was not upset with the salad either, but soup is one of her favorite foods and when it is made right she loves it. She said that her Tomato Bisque Soup was some of the best that she ever tasted.
I ordered a sandwich called the Farmer Lorenzo (all their sandwiches had unique names). It came with fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil on focaccia bread. I am usually not a fan of fresh tomato, but with basil on it, it was really good. We both agreed that everything we ordered from the lunch menu tasted super fresh. Hats off to The Midnight Rooster for their sandwich preparation.
The food menu is small, but it offers a lot for the health conscious. And it has a nice selection of coffee offerings. The Midnight Rooster has a wine and beer bar on site as well. So, if alcohol is your thing, then definitely check their wine and beer menu out while you are in town. Hartsville has some great places to visit, and The Midnight Rooster is definitely among them.

OMG - I love The Midnight Rooster! I live about 30 minutes from Hartsville and that coffee shop is amazing. It's the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or coffee after dinner. When in Hartsville, Bizzell's is a must for dinner. They have the best Shrimp and Grits. Hartsville is such a unique town.
Girl! We went to Bizzell's too! It was so freaking good. Hartsville is such a different town. I haven't seen many places where everyone seems to just know, love and support everyone else like what I saw in Hartsville. It's really just about perfect.
