Amber, Mackenzie and I recently came back from our Dominican Republic Impact Travel Cruise with Fathom. And I want to share with you a little about the ship itself. I haven’t seen a post about the Fathom Adonia library anywhere so I simply must cover it. It’s the real hidden gem of this ship. Amber and I really enjoy reading and we have also convinced Mackenzie {a non or rare reader} to read a book on our cruise. How? Because the library on this ship is awesome. We started cruising last year and this is my 3rd and their 2nd cruise so, of course, we are not claiming to be experts, but we asked several other seasoned cruisers on this ship and it is a consensus: the Fathom Adonia Library is definitely the best cruise ship library in everyone’s opinion.

The Fathom Adonia Library: A Small Ship Can Still Offer A Fabulous Selection

The other two cruises that I went on were bigger {one was even one of the biggest at sea} and definitely have their merits {we love them, too, but for different reasons}, but the Fathom Adonia library is the best of the libraries. Why? Well, first, and perhaps most importantly, there is a pretty big collection of books. They also have a great selection of games {with multiple copies of most} and several puzzles. Big puzzles, too, like 1,000 and 1,500 pieces! I love puzzles and really wanted to start one during the cruise but never got around to it. Perhaps next time.

Amber and Mackenzie have already played a few of the games and Mackenzie and I each checked out a book. I have read the previous two books by Khaled Hosseini and now I am reading, “And The Mountains Echoed.” I didn’t get it finished while cruising so I bought it when I got home to continue it. Mackenzie read, “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” I am hoping to read that at some point in my life, too. Amber brought “The Time Traveler’s Wife” with her and read that entire book during the cruise. I read it previously and it is fabulous. She also checked one out and I think she might have finished it, too!

The Fathom Adonia Library has tons of genres to choose from. I saw books by authors that I like including Sophie Kinsella and Ernest Hemingway. The only notable writer that I am interested in that I did not see represented was Stephen King. They could have books by him that are already checked out, though.

The Fathom Adonia Library has a great selection of travel books, as well. This ship goes to the Dominican Republic {the cruise we took} and Cuba {perhaps the only ship going to Cuba right now leaving out of the US}, so you will find lots of travel books covering these places.

You can check out many of the books and take them back to your rooms, so don’t worry about having to stay in the library and read them if you do not wish. I think the only ones you can’t check out are the travel ones but I could be wrong, so be sure to ask before you take a book. However, the library is so beautiful that you might just want to stay there anyway. There is a gorgeous globe that Mackenzie and I were in love with as well as a beautifully painted ceiling. The walls and bookcases are all beautiful, dark woods and the seating is very comfortable – but not so comfortable that you fall asleep. I need to be the perfect amount of comfy to read – otherwise it’s lights out, lol.

Another Great Place To Read On The Fathom Adonia

Another place I recommend reading is The Crow’s Nest. This is a beautiful room on the 10th floor of the ship. It also has a bar and a band setup, but it was quiet most times during the daytime. It’s at the front of the boat and is surround by windows. You can see everything. Just like Sophia from the Golden Girls would tell you, picture it. One time I sat in The Crow’s Nest, all alone, while everyone is on the island. Ahhhh… The way the port is at Amber Cove, you were surrounded by island while sitting in The Crow’s Nest. I liked to sit facing forward, looking out at the sea, while Amber Cove surrounded me on both sides. It was breathtaking, quiet, and oh so relaxing.
