St. Patrick’s Day will be before you know it, so why not celebrate with some traditional Irish fare? This Irish Soda Bread Recipe can be made with either raisins or cranberries and you can even add Caraway Seeds if you want it to be more traditional.
Irish Soda Bread Recipe
You Will Need…
1/2 cup white sugar
4 cup all-purpose flour {divided}
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
3 cup raisins {or you can substitute cranberries if you prefer}
1 tbsp caraway seeds {optional}
2 eggs {lightly beaten}
1 1/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup sour creamTo Prepare…
Before beginning, be sure to preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Next, grease a 9 inch round baking or cake pan.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour (reserve 1 tablespoon), sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, raisins or cranberries {whichever you prefer}, and caraway seeds {optional}. In a smaller bowl, blend eggs, buttermilk, and sour cream. Stir the liquid mixture into the flour mixture just until flour is moistened.
Next, knead dough in bowl about 10 to 12 strokes. The dough should be sticky. After kneading, place the dough in the prepared pan and pat down. Cut a 4 x 3/4 inch deep slit in the top of the bread. Dust the bread with 1 Tbsp flour.
Bake in preheated oven for 65 to 75 minutes. Let cool and turn bread out onto a wire rack.

I love Irish Soda Bread and generally pick up a loaf with some real Irish Butter. Almost did that today as a matter of fact but figured I'd wait a bit longer. I never thought of attempting to make it myself--hum-----
Real Irish butter sounds really good, too! I will have to try that. :)
