Flu Symptoms & Tips To Avoid Getting The Flu #sponsored @ShopularApp

With the holiday season comes a lot of fun. Between the gatherings with family and friends that you may not have seen in a while, and all of the shopping, you are constantly getting exposed to all types of germs. So, I have put together a list of flu symptoms and things that you can do to possible lower your chances of getting the flu.

Flu Symptoms

According to Flu.gov, Flu symptoms include:
*A 100oF or higher fever or feeling feverish (not everyone with the flu has a fever)
*A cough and/or sore throat.
*A runny or stuffy nose.
*Headaches and/or body aches.
*Chills.
*Fatigue.
*Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea (most common in children)

Ways To Avoid Catching The Flu

Peak flu season generally starts in January, but January is certainly not the only month you can get the flu. Suffering with flu symptoms does not sound like a fun way to spend my holidays to me. So, let’s talk about some simple things you can do to avoid getting the flu this holiday season.

1. Wash Your Hands – Be sure to wash your hands each and every time you go to the restroom, before cooking and before touching you or your child’s face. You should wash your hands for at least as long as it takes you to say your ABCs {at least 20 seconds}. You also should use very warm water. Don’t scald your hands, but the hotter the better.

2. Use Facial Tissues – I can’t begin to tell you how often I see people sneeze or cough into their hand and then touch everything around them. That’s nasty. Invest in some tissues. And throw them away after each use.

3. Get Plenty Of Rest – You body is more able to fight off germs when it is in it’s best condition. Part of that means you need to give yourself plenty of rest.

4. Drink Plenty Of Fluids – A dehydrated body is not as healthy as one that is not dehydrated. The healthier you are, the easier it is for your body to keep itself that way.

5. Don’t Be A Hero – If you have the flu, please stay at home. No one wants you to bring it to them at work. Stay home, rest and come back when you are better.

What To Do If You Have The Flu

If you have the flu, but aren’t sick enough to go to the hospital, you can treat yourself at home. There are over the counter medicines that you can take that aren’t very expensive either. For instance, Thanks to Shopular, we were able to find out that this week at Family Dollar they are having a sale on Cold and Flu Medicines.

  • We have had our fair share of illness this season, about a month ago the whole family except our youngest got the flu or some sort of stomach bug. We were down and out for two days. It was horrible!

    • We've been pretty lucky so far this year except for our daughter. She has caught everything {except the flu} it seems.

  • These are some really great tips that I recently had to put into strict practice when my fiance came down with the flu. He had the entire time he was on a business trip across the country, and it is just now starting to clear up... two weeks later. The flu is rough this season!

  • I've been washing my hands a lot, especially after I come home from shopping. Trying to stay as healthy as possible this season!

  • Great tips. I actually have a flu shot scheduled for this weekend. I am diabetic so the flu scares me.
