Pouf Ottoman and Mirror From Lumisource

Decorating a room can be a difficult task when you can’t find exactly what you want. For instance, I have a unique taste, that is why I find it very hard to find anything I like. I have been really needing a vanity. I have looked all over town, but everything I have found has been plain and boring – not me at all. I had a school desk that we picked up at a fleamarket that was exactly what I wanted for a shabby chic DIY vanity but I never could find a mirror or chair that I liked.

That is why I was so excited when I got the chance to work with LumiSource. LumiSource offers all sorts of things to amp up your home, including unique, yet modern furniture, as well as really cool decorative items. Sadly, they did not offer vanities, so I decided to incorporate some of their items into my DIY vanity project. I found the results very lovely!

From LumiSource, I ordered the Pouf Wall Mirror and Pouf Round Ottoman. The Pouf Mirror is big, which I really like for a vanity. It makes it easier to see when doing my hair. The Pouf Round Ottoman is large and comfortable, it was also very easy to put together. Both items are silver and have big crystals on the surface, this gives them a diva-like appearance which I thought was wonderful for the chic far of the the shabby chic DIY vanity. For the actual table part of the vanity, I used the desk that we picked up at the flea market.

Shabby Chic DIY Vanity

To create this Shabby Chic DIY vanity, you will need:

– The Round Pouf Ottoman from LumiSource

– The Pouf Mirror from LumiSource

– Silver Metallic spray paint that contains an anti-rust agent

– An old desk {like the type kids use in school}

First, I removed the cheap laminate portion from the top of the desk. I used a screwdriver to pry the pieces off, but feel free to use whatever you are comfortable with. Warning, the process takes a while so make sure you have a weekend afternoon. Underneath was a chipboard material and I left that for a shabby look. Then I took a Brillo Pad and scrubbed as much of the rust off of the desk as possible.

Then, I spray painted the entire desk with the Silver Metallic spray paint. With this particular project, it is okay if the spray paint isn’t exactly even. We aren’t looking for perfection, we are looking for shabby. The imperfections only make the vanity look cooler and more unique in my opinion.

In a few hours our desk was dry. So, I took it inside and added the Pouf Wall Mirror and Pouf Round Ottoman from Lumisource to complete the shabby chic DIY vanity. Now I have a one-of-a-kind vanity that I find really useful. I can keep my makeup on top, my styling tools in the actual desk drawer {as they need to be kept on a metal surface, and I can hang my jewelry on the mirror.

After all the work, I love my new vanity and I can’t thank LumiSource enough for helping me to build just the vanity I had in mind. It is perfect!
