The holidays are almost upon us and that means we will be busy, busy, busy. So, at this time of the year, I really enjoy the moments when I can just enjoy a nice drink like this Red’s Orange White Russian that I am sharing and catch up on some of my favorite TV shows.
Catching Up On My Favorite Shows On Netflix
As many of you already know, we cut the cord a few months ago. That means that we got rid of satellite. We then decided to try out Netflix. At around $8 a month, it is really a steal. I especially love that you can watch your programming whenever you want, without the fear of accidentally cleaning our the entire DVR {yes, I have done that doh}! Plus, you can also watch your shows where you want, when you want. You can watch them on your ipad on the go, with your gaming device such as a Wii, or on your big screen in the living room. This is TV that really works with your lifestyle.
With Netflix, I have been able to catch up on old favorite programming like Wings and Law and Order: SVU and I have even watched the entire Private Practice series – something I never watched when it originally aired. It looked interested, but it overlapped with something else I watched or didn’t work with my schedule. I have also been able to see quality programming that you can only find on Netflix. And, with Thanksgiving coming up, I went through the new additions to Netflix last night and added some holiday programming to my cue like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and some of the Charlie Brown classics. What fun these will be to watch during the holidays!
Orange Is The New Black
I am really digging the show “Orange Is The New Black”. Not just because it has a similar title as Cheap Is The New Classy *wink* but also because it has top notch actors that I like such as Taylor Schilling, Jason Biggs and Laura Prepon. I really loved Schilling in “Mercy” and hate that it was canceled. But now I get to see her in this new show about her adjustment from upper middle class to prison life. I watched the entire 1st season in one weekend and am impatiently awaiting the 2nd season’s release.
Another very cool character in Orange Is The New Black is Red {played by Kate Milgrew}. She went from being a member of the Russian mob to head chef in the prison kitchen. Trust me, she proves that is a position of power. Curtis Stone has partnered with Netflix to come up with a White Russian Recipe inspired by her character.
Red’s Orange White Russian Recipe
Ingredients
Ice cubes
1/4 cup Kahlua
2 tablespoons vodka
1 tablespoon Cointreau
2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
1 navel orangeMethod
1.Fill a rocks glass halfway with ice cubes. Add the Kahlúa, vodka, and Cointreau and gently stir to blend.
2.Pour the cream over so that it floats on top of the Kahlúa mixture. Using a fine grater, grate some orange zest on top. Serve immediately.

While we watch Netflix all the time; I haven't heard of Orange Is The New Black. Now I'm curious.
Sounds tasty! I'll be sure to ltry this one I'm done breastfeeding.
I think my mom would LOVE this recipe. She likes White Russians.
Good tv and a mixed drink? That is a perfect combination! I'm going to have to try both of these.
I love Netflix and I am looking forward to new episodes of Orange is the New Black.
We have Netflix, but have never heard of Orange is the New Black. Great cast, I am interested. Thanks for the drink recipe too.
We "cut the cord" last year and love using Netflix to watch movies/shows.
Wow this sounds SO good! I have got to try it!
Oh my gosh...I love this show! Seriously, I just finished season 1 last night and I'm. Left speechless! I cannot believe Piper did what she did, but then again she lost it after all her issues! I cannot wait for season two!
She did a lot of questionable and stupid things but for the jailhouse beating - I think if that chick was trying to kill me with a razor/shank thing and then trying to stab me with her whittled cross/sword thing, I would have delivered her a beat down, too, lol. You can only take so much. I am SO excited for the next season to hurry up and get here!
I love kahlua. I'd like to try this recipe.
