National Cheeseburger Day – History and Recipe Linky

National Cheeseburger Day ~

September 18th is National Cheeseburger Day. In honor of this most honorable of all holidays, here is a little history of the holiday and some awesome recipes to help you celebrate this National Cheeseburger Day right!

If Jimmy Buffett is singing about it, it can’t be bad, right?

How did National Cheeseburger Day start? Well, first we must start with the cheeseburger. According to Punchbowl, there are several theories about the humble begins of the American staple known as the cheeseburger. Apparently it dates back to at least the 1920s when one man suggested that a slice of cheese be added to his hamburger at Sternberger’s restaurant in Pasadena, California. The hamburger + cheese was eventually added to the menu and slowly made it’s way across the states and then throughout the world.

But what chain has the best burgers?

The Cooking Channel wants to know just that. They are running a reader East Coast/West Coast style competition {no, Tupac, Ice Cube, P. Diddy and Notorious BIG’s names are not mentioned} between Five Guys and In-and-Out Burger.

Personally, I pick neither. The best chain burgers come from either Red Robin, Steak and Shake or Margaritaville and/or Cheeseburger in Paradise, in my opinion. What do you think?

Ellen from Confessions of An Overworked Mom says, “If I am buying out, I’ll choose Burger King Whopper Jr with cheese.”

My friend, Johnetta, thinks that Cookout has the best burgers and her husband, Neil D., thinks that Wendy’s does.

How do you like your cheeseburger?

Lisa from Drugstore Divas says, “bacon, definitely bacon.”

Ellen from Confessions of An Overworked Mom says, “If I am making them myself, we use grass fed local beef from a nearby farm, topped with Vermont cheddar, mayo, ketchup, mustard & homemade dill pickles. Medium.”

Nicole from MamaNYC says “Cheese & Ketchup makes for a happy Nicole, but i’ll also frequent a pickles and onions topping. I’ll also take some bacon from time to time.”

Crystal from Daily Deals 4 Pets says, “I’m a simple gal…ketchup, cheese, pickles. That’s all I need. Sometimes I’ll add lettuce and onion but rarely.”

Amber from Jade Louise Designs says, “Cheese, ketchup, mustard, VERY LITTLE onion, pickles, lettuce and tomato..oh yum.”

My husband likes his with bacon, onions and bbq sauce or with pickles, onions, mustard and ketchup.

Mine would have a grilled bun, onion, mayo and cheese. I also sometimes like tomato and/or mushrooms on it. 🙂 And grilled is definitely best. Yum!

So, what does your favorite cheeseburger consist of?
