Just because something is old doesn’t mean it isn’t any good anymore, does it? I have an older, tower style stereo that I love. It has a tremendous sound. The only problem is, it is not Bluetooth capable, therefore using it to play music that I have stored on my phone, or streaming from online music sites, has been impossible, until now. Allow me to introduce you to Google Chromecast Audio.

Google Chromecast Audio: Stream Music Wirelessly On Older Stereos & Devices

My family has always been a big fan of music. Ever since I can remember, we listened to more music than we watched television. I can remember when I was growing up my parents had a huge cabinet model stereo with a stackable turntable. If you can remember stackable turntables, those things were really neat! When it finally broke, my dad was so disappointed.

I can also remember my parents’ frustrations when music went from vinyl records to cassettes, then from cassettes to CDs. With each passing form of media, that meant buying another player, and the one that you had before would become obsolete. I, too, have felt that frustration when things went from cassettes to CDs and from CDs to digital downloads.

I am sure you have heard of Google Chromecast for your television, which brings streaming media to your television and allows you to view your pictures on the television as well. Now that same technology is available for your music. Google Chromecast Audio can connect directly to your speakers or can be connected into a stereo via the auxiliary jack, allowing you to stream music from your phone. This allows you to play your music on devices that are not Bluetooth capable. I just think this is the greatest thing.

Google Chromecast Audio enables you to play music on your speakers, new or old, wirelessly from your phone, laptop or tablet. It uses WiFi instead of Bluetooth which allows you to stream crystal clear hi res sound.

For the purpose of this post, I am using Google Chromecast Audio on our living room stereo. We also have it hooked up to my stereo in the basement which is an older model that I had not been using very much anymore because it was not Bluetooth compatible. So now I no longer have a stereo downstairs that is pretty much useless.

Another great thing about Google Chromecast Audio is that it allows you to stream from your favorite streaming sites, like Pandora, Spotify, iHeartRadio and, my personal favorite, Google Play Music. We have a Google Play Music account, so this works great for listening to our playlists with great stereo sound.

Setting up the Google Chromecast Audio was simple. I had mine up and streaming in less that five minutes. You simply need to plug it in, plug it into the auxiliary jack of your stereo or speaker, and go online on your phone or laptop and go to the Chromecast setup page, and it will automatically detect your Chromecast Audio and guide you through the rest of the setup process. It could not be any simpler. After setup, it will run a quick test sound to make sure it is working properly, and then you are off and streaming. It will even show you how to cast from your device if you are unsure of how to do that.

This device has been a stereo saver for me. The sound was great, the music sounded awesome, and now I can stream from my favorite music services right to my stereo. My old, tower stereo is no longer obsolete and I love that. I have had it for years. It was one of the first things I bought with my own money and I am very attached to it. So, I definitely didn’t want to replace it with something newer. And now I don’t need to. I absolutely love my Google Chromecast Audio, and I know that the music lover in you will too!
