We love to cruise and try to take a couple every year since we started a few years ago. In 2015, we took a cruise to the western Caribbean and one of the stops was in Cozumel, Mexico. Let me tell you, if you have never been to Cozumel, it is well worth the trip for the shopping at the cruise port alone. But, the cruise port is only the beginning of what Cozumel has to offer. We booked an excursion to Playa Mia Water Park for the day and it was one of the best experiences of the entire cruise in my opinion! Dawn and I really enjoyed ourselves the entire day.
A Visit To Playa Mia Water Park In Cozumel, Mexico
Playa Mia Water Park boasts many wonderful activities, for kids and adults alike. Let’s start with the long list of kid’s activities that are available. It starts with the Twin Twister water slides, which are 200 feet long! There is also Buccaneers’ Bay, which features a pirate ship with water spray cannons. Or, there’s the floating water park out in the Caribbean Sea! I would suggest that only experienced swimmers attempt that one, but if they do, since it is in the sea! Also, there are several sea activities that can be rented, such as water bikes, paddle boats and floating mats and tubes.
That’s just the start of what Playa Mia Water Park has to offer. Playa Mia Water Park didn’t forget the adults either. There was a pool with a poolside bar, a massage tub and plenty of seaside chairs for lounging {which is what Dawn and I did most of the day}. Also there were at least two tiki bars that I can recall where you could order up your favorite beverage. Or, you could enjoy an game of beach volleyball or soccer.
Since Dawn and I had no kids on the trip with us, we spent the majority of the day lounging on the beach, staring out at the beautiful Caribbean Sea water and enjoying a few cocktails along the way {cocktails were included with our wristbands}. Dawn got her hair threaded at a stand directly behind where we were sitting and we shopped at some of the shops both along the beach and along the entrance way.
The highlight of the day was when Poncho the Poncho the Iguana made his appearance. He was being carried around by a man offering to take your picture with him for just $5. However, he would only accept cash, and since we weren’t carrying any cash on us that day, we couldn’t get the picture. Needless to say, Dawn was a little dejected about that. But, she did get to hold Poncho, and that did make her feel a little better. We talk about Poncho fondly to this day. 🙂
As part of the admission price, there was also a full buffet of authentic Mexican food including tacos, nachos, fresh fruit and more. The buffet was self serve and offered a large variety of toppings to choose from. If I remember correctly, I got Dawn and myself the nachos. With hers I put beef, cheese, jalapenos, sour cream and guacamole. Mine had beef, cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo and a squeeze of lime juice. Both were tasty, and really hit the spot when we started to get hungry!
I won’t forget this day as long as I live. I had the most wonderful, relaxing time (with the most wonderful person) and I have to say that it was rather difficult to leave Cozumel that day. If you have never experienced Cozumel, especially Playa Mia Water Park, you don’t know what you are missing! If you are headed out to Mexico any time soon, make sure to stop in Cozumel and visit Playa Mia Water Park!

My family would love it there! We love heading down to Mexico, and water parks are always a good time. The next time we get down there, we’ll have to make sure to check out Playa Mia.

I’ll be honest and admit that I cannot for the life of me remember where my friends and I were in Mexico. We were on our cruise and took a cab ride to a venue for our “party day” of unlimited food and drinks. They had jet ski’s, an inflatable rock climbing wall, kayaking, jet skis and a trampoline that we swam out to. We had a great time there!

I love how kid-friendly this place seems to be. I’ve been on a few cruises that claim this and then there’s maybe one thing for the kids to truly enjoy.
