It may be hot now, but fall and winter and fast approaching. And, to me, nothing is better in the winter than a nice soup or stew prepared in the slow cooker. I think food just tastes so much better when it’s allowed to cookly slowly, don’t you? This slow cooker Pot Roast recipe is one of our family favorites. With hearty roast and delicious vegetables, we hope it will become one of yours, too.
Grandma’s Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe
You Will Need…
2 lbs. boneless shoulder roast
4 medium potatoes {sliced}
1 cup celery {chopped}
1 small onion {chopped}
4 14.5 oz cans stewed tomatoes
16 oz bag baby carrots
1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 tsp garlic powder
8 cups water
salt and pepper to taste {we usually go light on these and let everyone add them to their individual servings to their preference}
*We make this recipe in a 6 qt slow cooker. So, if you have a different size slow cooker, just adjust the recipe to the size of your slow cooker.
To Prepare…
Once everything is cut and sliced per the above directions, add all ingredients to the slow cooker. Start with the shoulder roast. I am not sure if this is really necessary, I just like to add the meat first for my recipes.
Next, add the vegetables and then the garlic, salt and pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Finally, add the water. We cook this on low for about 12-15 hours. You can cook it on high if you like. I think it needs to cook about 6 hours that way, but we never do it on high, so be sure to check it at about 5 hours.
