I am really glad that winter is over. How about you? I mean, there are some things that are really fun about winter like sitting around the fireplace, watching movies with the family and drinking hot cocoa. However, all that hibernating can lead to a whole lot of work in the spring.

Many of us do a lot of spring cleaning when the season rolls around but we also have to worry about how winter’s effect on our bodies. All of that sitting and eating… well, it isn’t awesome for the waistline. So, I know many people that are looking for great tips to get their weight loss started. So, for those of you fighting the battle of the bulge this spring, I have compiled a list of weight loss tips to hopefully help you on your journey.

Spring Weight Loss Tips #1 – Work In The Garden – Gardening can be a lot of work. It also makes your yard and home look really pretty. Between replacing mulch, fertilizing trees, planting fruits and veggies and tending to the flowers, gardening can really burn a lot of calories.

Spring Weight Loss Tips #2 – Spring Cleaning – Cleaning the blinds, stairs, lights, cabinets, etc, can be very labor intensive. There are many people who like to give their home and epic clean in the spring and then maintain the rest of the year.

Spring Weight Loss Tips #3 – Pretty Up Your Home – For some reason, spring feels to me like the right time to paint. Our daughter just painted our bedroom and hall a couple weeks ago and it looks fabulous. There is nothing like the smell of clean paint to get you in the mood to do more around the house.

Spring Weight Loss Tips #4 – Join A Team – Play a sport. There are so many teams accepting signups in the spring that it should be easy to find something to sign up for. Our rec center has several sports to choose from in the spring, so it’s easy to find something for the whole family.

Spring Weight Loss Tips #5 – Drink Plenty Of Water – Safety first. Before you do any of these activities, make sure that you drink plenty of water. Also, continue to do so during and after the activity. Also, try to do as many of these activities in the early morning hours or late evening hours, if possible, as they can be the coolest parts of the day. If you feel dizzy or tires, take a break.

  2. Wonderful tips. I have been working in the garden and doing a bit of spring cleaning. I have guest coming to stay this week. I always feel better when spring arrives. It has to do with getting out and exercising.

  12. Hydration is key! Drinking plenty of water will enhance weight loss quickly. To make sure you are getting enough take your weight and divide by 2, then aim to drink that many ounces of h2O a day to be sure you are adequately hydrated.

  13. I can not wait until we get to a place where I can have a garden again. I guess since I do not have one that means I have to substitute the Spring Cleaning – that is jus plain wrong, lol. I just discovered some water enhancers that use natural sweeteners so drinking water just got a little easier.

  14. I think joining a team is a great idea for weight loss support so that all the members could motivate each other.

  16. I try to tell myself to just keep moving. Sitting still for too long is a bad thing, so I make myself take little exercise breaks.

  17. These are great tips. I need to do more of these, especially drink more water. That is one of my goals right now, to increase my water intake.

    Lots of good tips! I did 3 1/2 hours of yard work yesterday. I trimmed trees, raked leaves, pulled weeds, etc. Of course, I then make sure to fuel my workout. lol No calorie deficit here! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Good, simple tips and ideas. It’s amazing how many calories can be burned working around house and spring cleaning. Vacumming take a minute to vacuum part of your ceiling. Excellent arm workout and don’t be surprised if you can’t do even a whole room in one setting. Yard work, painting….all good exercise but make sure you are using correct posture and don’t overdo.

      You know, I have never vacuumed the ceiling. We have popcorn ceiling and my daughter always complains about it because she hates the way it looks. I wonder if you can suck the “popcorn” off the ceiling with a vacuum? lol.

    We have popcorn and hate them, too. To be honest, it doesn’t really suck it off like you would hope. Knocks some don’t shower or vacuum floors beforehand. You can scrape off the popcorn, but it is a messy, time consuming job. Good luck.
