With Thanksgiving just a few days away and Christmas shortly after that, it’s time to pull out the Christmas music. So here is something to be thankful for this holiday season – Mary J Blige has released “A Mary Christmas” to help you celebrate your holiday with class.

“A Mary Christmas” from Mary J Blige

Mary J Blige’s “A Mary Christmas” features such classic Christmas songs as, “Little Drummer Boy,” “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” all performed in her traditional, soulful fashion. She also has a few guests on the CD including one of my personal favorites, Marc Anthony.

Thoughts On “A Mary Christmas”

Most of the songs on this CD are performed with just enough change to the song to make it hers, but she still stays close enough to the original feel for it not to feel like a betrayal to the song writer. Mary J Blige does the tempo on “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” a bit, but it makes this song fun while giving it a bit of a jazz feel. Her voice is particularly suited to “Mary, Did You Know,” and “My Favorite Things” and her version of these two songs are some of the best I have ever heard. “When You Wish Upon A Star” is beautiful. I am not sure I have ever heard it on a Christmas themed CD before, but I like it and I can see why someone would choose to add this song. Additionally, Mary J Blige and Barbra Streisand have voices that sounds gorgeous together and blend beautifully.

“A Mary Christmas” is sure to be a Christmas CD that you and your family will treasure and listen to for years to come!
