Dishwasher Salmon ~
While browsing the internet, I found this video which gives instructions on how to cook salmon in your dishwasher. Yep, the dishwasher. I decided to investigate this further and apparently there are tons of people out there cooking dinner and doing the dishes at the same time. {Yes, the salmon guy does wash the dishes in the dishwasher while the salmon cooks – soap and all}.
I am not sure if I want to try this or not. The lazy part of me says “Less work and great food, what’s not to love?” while the not-wanting-to-die-a-nasty-food-poison death part of me says, “Bleh, between the soap and the cruddy food particles, me thinks that rolled up aluminum foil doesn’t strike me as exactly water tight.” But the salmon guy assures me that the salmon is air tight through the ultra scientific “poke” test. Regardless, something about “dishwasher salmon” just doesn’t sound quite appetizing to me – even in a French accent {yes, I tried saying it with the accent}.
Anyway, the internet also tells me that one can make dishwasher lasagna and dishwasher potatoes as well. The dishwasher lasagna site touts…
“…what if your oven has decided to take an unexpected vacation and you have hungry mouths to feed expecting nothing less than a taste of Italy? Save the day by creating hot and delicious Spinach and Ricotta Cheese lasagna fresh from your dishwasher!”

So, if you cook this for a dinner party, do you inform the guests that dinner was cooked in the dishwasher before or after they try it? What exactly is the etiquette for that little surprise? What if your guests offer to help with the dishes? Won’t they be pleased to learn that the dishes are already done. Hmmm, I wonder if Thanksgiving dinner can be cooked in the old dishwasher?
All of the recipes that I have found call for aluminum foil, some even specify heavy duty aluminum foil. I think that would be the best bet in all cases to use, personally. Admittedly, this idea does sound intriguing, mostly because I like weird stuff. But, I am not convinced of the safety of this method of cooking. What do you think?

Sounds really strange and I don’t think I want my fresh food and dirty dishes in the same place. While eating it will always be at the back of my mind and I wouldn’t be able to eat in peace.

This kind of freaks me out. I don’t think I could do that!
All I can picture is the gross food build-up stuck on the bottom of my dishwasher. EWW
No. No way. Would it not stink it up? EW. LOL

Interesting. I was hesitant at first, by after watching the whole video, I actually wouldn’t mind giving this a try. Though the first time I might just run it with well pre-cleaned dishes and natural or no soap. Haha.

That is fascinating! I would NEVER have thought of it….also probably would never do it, either. But it seems like you could put the foil-wrapped salmon in a sealed ziploc bag to keep ick out of it. Still…..not appetizing to me.

I would have to say –NO!!!
I would never do it!! Men will try anything. Reminds me of clip I saw where a man cooked his dinner on the car engine when on a long trip. They think of everything to use as oven.

Haha My husband has actually done this. He was tired of sandwiches & such so he had me send him canned ravioli which he heated up on the engine of his truck. He’s also heated other things that way too. I personally would not eat it!
