Children’s Hospital ~

Why work when you can have the day off, right? That is what tons of people think! Some people have the good fortune of being off on weekends like our friends at the Children’s Hospital.

I, however, am not one of those people. I work every Saturday at my real job {this is my fake one?} and my super cool husband rides with me.

Just because people work on weekends {or any day, for that matter} does not mean that they want to. In my day, I have heard some crazy excuses to get out of work. People who work on the weekends are prone to laziness just like those who work a regular 9-5. Of course I have heard the generic and vague “I am sick,” or the “my car broke down” just like everyone else, but I have also heard some really good, original excuses.

My husband told me that his dad used to work with this guy who would always call in saying that he “had to get some teeth pulled.” This was often, really often. So, the other guys at work got together and counted up how many teeth this man claimed to have had pulled and it came up to like 63 teeth. Okay. I am not sure if this guy thought he was a pterodactyl or what was going on but for an excuse to work really well, you really need to change it up a bit occasionally.

My husband also told me of a man that called in saying that he had to have an autopsy done. An autopsy. On himself. Nice. Fortunately for the man, it turns out that he really only needed a biopsy.

What kind of crazy excuses have you either used or heard to get out of work? Did they work?
Be sure to pick up Children’s Hospital: The Complete Third Season on DVD!

  4. Well… my OHs car seems to break down pretty often. Funny it always seems to happen as he is standing on the back porch trying to make it sound like he is outside.

  8. Oh my goodness, that is absolutely hysterical!!! I used to play hookie quite a bit when I was working outside my home. It would take me a day or two to write them all out! There is always the car trouble or my child’s not feeling well, lol. If employers were a little flexible and would accept a genuine “I need a mental health day”, we wouldn’t be forced to make stuff up ;)

  9. I agree with Dawn about the mental health days. I think that employers have to accept an “I’m sick” now without any questions because of the HIPAA laws now so getting a mental health day is a lot easier then it used to be.
