For anyone living under a rock, Ann Curry was removed as co-host of the Today Show on NBC. Yes, they gave her some shmancy fancy title but whatever, they still treated her like nothing. They passed over her for Meredith Vieira {whom I have nothing against, but still} and then when she got her few years in they *finally* let Ann have it.
Now they take it from Ann and give it to Savannah Guthrie {still, nothing against her either – in fact, she has only been on the Today Show for like 10 minutes so how could I have anything against her}. It looks to me like Natalie Morales got the old shaft on this one, too.
Here are my thoughts. For whomever would like to blame Ann Curry for the ratings drop…perhaps they should look a little closer at other possible reasons like..
1) The Today Show changes co-hosts more often than a lot of people change cars. Really, you give Ann 1 freaking year to prove herself when she has done that for how many years now and all of a sudden the weight of NBC’s Today Show problems lie solely with Ann Curry. Um, no. Chalk one up to the show’s unreliability.
2) The show stinks. I am so sick of being told that something will be coming up “soon,” to still be told that the segment I am interested in seeing is coming “soon” an hour later. I generally get mad and don’t see my segment. Just because we are at home doesn’t mean we aren’t busy. You obviously don’t value our time at all.
4) Oh, and some more news would help. You know, real news. A little less cooking, drinking, reality show “star” co-hosting mess, and a little more news.
5) And I no longer care “Where In The World Is Matt Lauer”…but I do care where in the world Ann Curry will be.
6) And finally, if you care nothing about your employees {totally the vibe I get} would I assume that you care anything about your viewers?
NBC used to be THE network to watch. Remember “Must See TV?” Sadly, today’s NBC really isn’t. Today’s NBC seems to be run by people who are so disconnected with what the viewer really wants and hotheads that make impulsive decisions with no brainstorming. This seems to me to be par for the course with NBC. Remember the old shaft that Conan O’Brien got just a few years ago? I haven’t watched Leno since.
In sum: NBC – I think you just made a BAD mistake.
Ann: If this post on this little blog ever finds it’s way to you…don’t sweat it. NBC messed up and everyone knows it {read a few message boards and you will see this, too}. You can’t help that they aren’t smart enough to see this. Working for idiots doesn’t make you one. Good things are coming your way and I won’t look down on you if you give NBC the old side eye when you get them.

I can not remember the last time I saw any type of tv that was not animated, probably about the time that Conan got that horrible deal, I was sick when that happened. I do not feel horrible at all for not helping their ratings.

I haven’t watched the Today Show regularly in years, specifically because of #2!! I used to hate that about the show. Like you said, people at home can be busy to, and it used to suck when I would turn the channel for a minute, only to come back and find out that the segment I was waiting for aired. SMH. Anywho, it sucks what they did to Ann as I really did like her. Don’t really like the network now. It’s only saving grace is Up All Night. Like you I remember when it was a great network to watch. If you would have asked me I would have told you hands down it was a favorite. Now, ABC it is!

Ooh, I love ABC! There are also lots of cable channels that I love! I haven’t seen “Up All Night,” though I have to admit that it looks funny. I do watch “The Office” on NBC. Love that show! And you are right about switching channels for a minute and your segment played. When they say it’s “coming up” you have no idea what that means. It could be 5 minutes, it could be 2 hours…ugh. And then, sometimes they build up a segment for an hour and when it finally gets there, it’s like 2 minutes long. Really?

Never watch the Today show anymore. I got tired of Matt Lauer’s arrogance.

I love this I so agree with you they needed to let Ann prove herself instead of going for the next big thing

From Ann’s first day way back when she had come a loooooooooooooooooong way. I thought she tripped over her words like crazy and didn’t listen to the answers of her guests before she threw another question at them, so sometimes they’d already answered but she wasn’t paying attention. Let’s just say that I thought she was pretty awful in the beginning. BUT, I feel like she worked really, really hard over the years and became much smoother and polished. I was angry when Meredith got that spot because I didn’t think she would be good, and quite frankly, she wasn’t.
It wasn’t until yesterday when I finally tuned in again after a long time that I realized there had been yet another shake-up with the anchors over there. How do they expect us to be loyal if they’re not?
