Must See TV Shows..

So, I was reading on Shary Loves You today all about the TV shows that fill her waking hours. {Incidentally, Shary originally credits this post idea to Kecia from Southern Girl Ramblings – ah, the circle of blog life} Shary has a small child, so as one might conclude, her TV viewing hours consist of the Dora and Blue’s Clues variety. That is so funny – my daughter is now 15 and she absolutely LOVED Blue’s Clues as a small child. Had I not seen Shary’s post, I may have never known that Blue’s Clues is still on TV today. My daughter’s favorite, however {and yes, I might suffer a slow and painful death if she sees this} was Barney. You can imagine her surprise when Barney surprised her at daycare for her birthday one year!

My daughter {in the crown} receiving roses from Barney!

So, let me tell you a little about the programs that my family likes to watch. Here are my Top 5 shows {at the moment} in no particular order. :)

Castle {ABC} – My husband, daughter and I all love this TV show! From the brilliantly smart detective Beckett {Stana Katic}, to the tag-along writer, Castle {Nathan Fillion}, what’s not to love? Although I have to admit that the whole seemingly-never-getting-anywhere flirtation between Castle and Beckett was getting a little old, this season ended on a high note and totally renewed my faith in the vision of this show. I can’t wait for next season.

The Firm {NBC} – Like many, many people, I love John Grisham novels. And I love Josh Lucas! Ah, the perfect show for me! Well, for one season anyway. Sadly, this TV show was just cancelled. However, they are still playing episodes. Perhaps NBC could change it’s mind. I mean, how many times did they bring Trauma back before they finally axed it for good?

Hot In Cleveland {TVLand} - Ah, Betty White! How do I love thee? Ever since Golden Girls, I have absolutely adored Betty White. When I heard that she would be on another program, I honestly didn’t need to hear what it was about – I was watching. I am happy to say, though, that this show is absolutely hilarious and may be the best show on this entire list. With an ensemble cast of Valerie Bertinelli {One Day At a Time, Touched By An Angel}, Wendie Malick {Just Shoot Me} and Jane Leeves {Frasier} and a writing department that includes the hilarious Sean Hayes {Will and Grace}, there is no way this show could be anything but crazy funny – and it is. My husband, daughter {yes, my 15 year old daughter!} and I all love it! I DVR it and generally watch it at least twice before I delete it. :)

The Office {NBC} – I have watched this show for years and have usually found it to be dependably funny. Highlights of the show were when Jim and Pam were dating and, of course, when Michael {Steve Carrell} was the manager. I have to admit that this season started out kind of blah {I haven’t loved Robert California {James Spader} on this show} but it seems like Andy {Ed Helms} and Dwight {Rainn Wilson} are playing far more leading roles and that is bringing the show closer to it’s former glory. To me, the Jim {John Krasinski} and Pam {Jenna Fischer} story line has grown stale and I don’t love Pam’s character that much anymore, but Jim is hilarious with Dwight. I would also love to see more of Creed, Meredith and Daryl’s characters – they are brilliant and don’t get nearly enough screen time! On the season finale, it seemed like perhaps James Spader’s character was adiosed – I hope that’s the case. Ideally, I would love to see Andy and Dwight struggling for control of the Office again. I also don’t love the British chick – I have no idea what her name is nor do I know what she has been in, sorry. I wouldn’t call this my favorite show now, although it has been my absolute favorite show at many times over the years, but I do have a loyalty to it that’s it’s past hilarity has earned. Towards the end of this season, the show started to get really funny again. I hope it continues. ;)

90210 {WB} – I loved Beverly Hills, 90210 and when I found out about this new remake a few years ago, I got really excited. I am not one who stresses over remakes and I try to base each show {song, movie, whatever} on their own, individual merits. This show is great in it’s own right. I think it has just the right amount of drama without going overboard and keeps me excited to see it every week. The season finale was the best I have seen of any show this season {aside from Castle, they were probably equally as good}. I love every character on the show and find them all important to the story. Yes, I know I am older than the target audience but my daughter and I watch this together every week. I really just love this TV show and have nothing to complain about.

I also really like Smash {NBC} and The Client List {Lifetime}, but they are too new for me {either first season or I just started watching} to add them to a favorite’s list. We will see if they still rock in coming TV seasons. :)

So, reader, what’s on the tube in your home?

  1. LOVE The Office! My husband and I have seen every episode! So sad that it’s on break right now. I used to watch 90210 until they switched networks…now we don’t get that channel. Boo!

  2. During the summer, if we’re watching TV it’s the Red Sox games. During the “off season” we DVR shows like Awake, Desperate Housewives (so sad that it is over), Bethenney Ever After, Burn Notice, and Modern Family.

A few weeks ago, I discovered Storage Wars…think that might go on the DVR list, too!

    • I hate that Desperate Housewives is over, too. :( I have seen advertisements for Storage Wars but haven’t watched it yet…isn’t it on TruTV? I like World’s Dumnest {all varieties} and Hard Core Pawn, too {I just discovered that a few weeks ago}.

    • The WB does have really good shows! Their “teen” shows are not just for teens. :) I think they are the network that will be carrying “The Carrie Diaries,” too. There is something really cool about watching shows that are based on shows that you loved years ago!!

  7. I’m still a Grey’s Anatomy fan – however I was NOT happy they killed off Lexi but understand the actress was ready to move on in her career. I also love Castle. I love the wit of his character.

It’s funny – I used to be a TV addict – now I basically just use it to put me to sleep. I set the timer for about an hour, or 90 minutes – put on some really boring show and drift off!

  1. [...] Let’s see, the show aired for 10 years with several successful spin offs {Melrose Place, 90210, etc.} so, there is obviously still interest, since one of the shows is pretty new. Several of the [...]
